Good food, good service, good atmosphere. And even sitting outside the roadside noise wasn't too bad. We will be back.

Food is great, absolutely no doubt! Ambiance modern, pretty cool hotel lobby (Canopy by Hilton), but loud. Place seems to be new, servers are very lost and seem not to know what is going on. Host was somewhat rude and didn't seem to care much about good service. Bartender Ben was awesome suggesting local wines and overall service.

Very bad experience. Water was literally dripping on our table from the ceiling. Told the waitress when she came to our table and then sat there for 10 minutes without anyone coming over or doing anything so we left. Have a reservation at this hotel in December and will now be canceling

We had a 9pm reservation after a Sun Devil's game. It was busy but a few open tables. We were seated quickly but then ignored for 20 minutes. Finally our waitress came to apologize and say she'd be with us soon. She never came back so we left. There were staff wandering around that could have helped but chose not to.

We had a reservation and they said it'll be an hour and half wait. Host acted like we were bothering her. We waited about 15 mins and didn't have anyone come to our table. They were not even packed or really busy.

Our party of 3 reserved a prepaid "Chef's Themed Dinner - Stranger Things" for 6PM the evening of Oct. 16th. We received a final email confirmation of this reservation on the same day. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were informed by our waiter that the Chef's Themed Dinner was cancelled, and that the manager would explain the situation to us. We then asked the waiter what he would recommend from the regular menu that could be prepared in a timely fashion, as we were attending a 7:30 performance at the nearby Gammage theater. The waiter shared that the staff were "really slammed with business", and could recommend only a few items from the menu: So- we ordered three of those items along with cocktails. We were surprised to realize that the manager was actually sitting at a table near ours socializing with other dinner guests. (She had sat there so long, that we thought she was part of that table's party.) Eventually she came to our table and explained that the Chef's Themed Dinner was actually cancelled at least a week ago, and suggested that it was Sales & Marketing's communication error, so she wouldn't (and didn't) need to provide a simple "Gee, I'm really sorry this happened." At this point I was really only concerned that my "non-refundable" $385 charge for the cancelled Chef's Dinner wouldn't be refunded. The manager then left us to see what she could do. It's now 6:45 (25 minutes since we've ordered) and our cocktails are just arriving. At this point it's clear that we won't have time to eat before the time of the performance, so we cancel the food order. The manager now reappears, and provided us business cards for the Directors of: Sales & Marketing; and Food & Drink. She now says that's there's nothing she can do, but we should contact these individuals to ensure we get a refund. ?!?!? Our drinks were begrudgingly comped. I did get a refund. But, needless to say, there won't be a return visit to this establishment.

We enjoyed our dinner at alter ego! Three of us had the salmon and loved it. The pork chop also got rave reviews. Our server was Josh who was phenomenal! Very engaging and attentive. We will be back!!

I've stayed at Canopy by Hilton twice now and both times I booked through Amex and had a $100 food & beverage credit, so I got to try a lot of food at Alter Ego. For a hotel restaurant, it's pretty great. The menu has a lot of options and everything is pretty tasty. As a regular restaurant I'm not quite sure I would go if I lived in the area, but I also wouldn't rule it out.

Both trips I had the Fork & Knife Breakfast Burrito and it was absolutely incredible. You can EASILY feed two people with this, and I'm sad to say I almost finished the whole thing this morning. Fast forward 10 hours and I wasn't even that hungry for dinner, but I had the miso salmon which the bartender recommended and was great.

The menu was slightly different from a year and a half ago so it's nice to see they don't just let the menu sit for frequent visitors of the hotel.

Service has always been excellent from both bars/restaurants in the hotel.

I heard good things about this place, so I decided to go with my friends and eat. The food was very good, don't get me wrong, but the service was horrible. It took over 50 minutes for us to receive our food when it was sitting on the kitchen counter ready to be served. They forgot about one of the dishes that we bought, but that's fine, we weren't really mad about that, but then our server came up to us and said that she had to close our checks because she was leaving. We never got a new server. They forgot about us, I guess, and it took us about an hour to get our checks paid. My friend had to walk up to the bar with the bills because they never checked in on us again. As we were leaving, we were going over our checks and realized they charged the wrong cards, even though they were attached to the correct bills. If this place is available to order online, I'd choose that option.

Had breakfast at Alter Ego inside the Canopy Hotel and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Varsity Breakfast — fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hashbrowns, toast, sausage, and fresh orange juice. Everything was tasty and well-prepared, a solid way to start the day.

The space is stylish and open, with a great vibe. In the mornings it feels relaxed, but at night this spot really comes alive — the bar is always full and the restaurant is packed. It’s clearly one of the go-to hangouts in Tempe.

Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just nearby, Alter Ego is a great choice for breakfast, drinks, or a lively evening out.

Hands down the worst service you’re ever going to have is at this restaurant. I feel bad for the cooks. Foods good. But not worth the 2 hour wait. Hailey our waitress just ignored us the entire time. We were sat at 7pm and didn’t get our food until 8:50pm. Tried to inform the manager about the terrible service and he just ignored my group. This place isn’t going to make it. Hope the chefs find a better place to work where front of the house doesn’t ruin the experience.

We did AZ Restaurant Week as it allows us to get a sample different restaurants. Alter Ego was of the restaurants we decided to sample. It's in the Canopy Hotel in downtown Tempe. Good atmosphere and clean. The food was really good. The pork chop was moist and cooked to perfection. Bang bang shrimp could have used a little more spice/kick. The drinks were on point. Overall it was a great date night. We will be back.

I had a very disappointing experience at Alter Ego. We had a reservation through OpenTable and arrived five minutes early, only to find no host available to seat us. We were forced to approach the bar ourselves to ask where to sit, which set a poor tone for the evening. Once seated, our server took our drink orders, but we didn't receive our drinks (beer and wine) for the next 15 minutes. When we asked about the ingredients in one of the appetizers, the server went to the kitchen but never returned with an answer. After waiting a total of 22 minutes without resolution or service, we decided to leave. The service was unprofessional, and the restaurant demonstrated a clear lack of regard for its customers. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely frustrating and not what one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber.
