Patio ambience was good. Restaurant was not crowded but staff was really backed up. Probably short staff so it took awhile to have our order taken and drinks brought. For a party of 5, we were only brought 4 place settings. Staff was asked to bring an extra to the table but never did. Tacos were very good, enchilada was weird and did not like.
Great location with nice ambiance and decor. I ordered the chopped salad with chicken and my friend ordered the tacos. Seemed like a miss that beans or rice were not served with the tacos, but the chicken in my salad was delicious.
Had a lovely evening out with family hosting a relative we haven’t seen in years. The cocktails were amazing and the service top notch. We came for the food and the kitchen did not disappoint. I had a trio of different flavors of enchiladas. Amazing and filling. I highly recommend Barrio Queen in Tempe. Make reservations. This place is popular.

It the music was sooooo loud you couldn't visit - I asked the hostess if they could turn it down a bit . She said no they like it loud - I'll never be back !!! Too loud to visit with friends
This place was very excellent, a bit loud but worth it. From the food to the waiter. My parents got the guacamole with pomegranate seeds and they liked it a lot.

I went to dinner tonight and i was not very pleased of the food quality on the taco and the tortillas were like hard and i assumed it was waiting for a while and i feel like next time i would be arriving earlier for dinner and people were mopping and sweeping right by my table and the smell of the chemicals was not a great thing for the dinner i had tonight. I was trying to look around for a manager but i didn't see anyone in the dining room and i went to the restrooms and the floors was a little wet and I'm not sure if its a safety issue since there's still other people in the building but overall my server was good and i really like barrio queen but this experience wasn't pleasant. 9/8/25

The restaurant was really pretty. The staff were great.
Unfortunately worst Mexican food I’ve had in years. Will not come back. Will tell everyone I know that “your mother’s cooking” is such a lie and you could get better food in a mall food court. Rice tasted like water and salt. Beans tasted like a bag of beans with water and salt. Meat part of the entree had no seasoning. Chips lacked salt and no salt shakers around. Really, not exaggerating, worst food. I was really sad. The Phoenix Airport’s mexican restaurant is better inside the terminal which is saying a lot.

We've mostly gone to the Barrio Queen in Gilbert and loved it. Not sure if the Tempe location is different or if they all changed. The menu seems smaller than it used to be. Some of our favorite things are gone from the menu. Our server seemed annoyed when we asked about a couple of items and if they were gluten free or not. We ended up getting tacos because so many things that shouldn't have gluten and are usually fine elsewhere actually have gluten. The shrimp tacos only had two shrimp in each one. For the price it seems like they'd have three (most places we've been to do). The menu should mark items that are gluten free. And, maybe they could offer more choices that are gf. Mexican restaurants are usually places where there are more options for that. May not go back to any of the Barrio Queen restaurants after this experience.

The margarita flight was excellent. The fajitas were a little too burnt and very bland. I loved the rice!

Gotta start with saying this place is absolutely delicious! My bestfriend & I got the pork nachos, enchiladas suizas & the chicken tacos with the hibiscus paloma! The food hit me like a train with how good it was first bite im not even gonna act like it wasnt good from start to finish, my plate was cleaned. I also wanna give a shoutout to the tortilla chips because this was the first time ive been somewhere & the tortilla chips were FRESH, literally golden brown, still glistening from the oil fresh & the bite on them was amazing. This is such a cute spot, great atmosphere & the service was wonderful! I will definitely come back to this location specifically. Love love love!
