Valentines Day. Issues with honoring our OpenTable reservations. Reserved Indoor Bar seats. Offered table closest to bathrooms. Had to settle for outdoor dining. Wasn't seated until 45 minutes after reservation. Drinks were great Appetizer of grilled oysters were sad. Not much meat. Butter was delicious Entree: Short Ribs were amazing. Blue corn tortillas never arrived. They caught the error and said they are coming. They never did. By the time i saw the server again, my meal was already finished. Mushroom Tacos: The Mrs. said they were fantastic. You really should include rice or beans with them. Did not have a dessert. Nice time but a string of errors (very busy night) really cramped a nice night out.
Overbooked and under staffed. They couldn't handle the crowd. Res 6:30, got there 6:25, don't get seated until 6:45. Wouldn't let you go to bar for drink. Sent email that we had to be done in 1.5 hrs. They couldn't get us out in over 2 hrs with serve times on food and booze? Food great, so this is disappointing to write not a complaint. No free app or desert just an empty apology from hostess
Absolute perfection! Class act! Re-lighting the candles, changing out dishwater and cutlery per course, the server coursed out our meal and was incredibly knowledgeable and lovely, drinks were fabulous, ambiance was dope.
Great food and cocktails. Arrived during Happy Hour the chips and guacamole were very good. Tacos and quesadillas for sharing were plentiful. Will go back
Everything was great except the unexpected extra charges for sides we weren't asked or notified about such as the rice($4) and corn tortillas($3).
Hidden gem! Everything was great! Cocktails were delicious- we loved the quesadilla and elotes!

Our server was the best we've had in a long time and the food was amazing! we are already looking to return.
Dinner for New Year’s Eve, reservation so our seating was easy. Friendly and very knowledgeable staff on their menu. Delicious menu flavors. The ceviche as an appetizer is the way to go.

No sure how to start. The guac was maybe the best I have ever had which kind of sums up the entire experience. From the host John being amazing the moment we walked in to Marie our server who was so helpful helping us pick what to order. They have a lot of my favorite things. Unfortunately the relleno is seasonal which is my favorite thing. But at least that gives me a good reason to go back. My favorite is the salsa that comes with the. Quesadillas which was also amazing. This place is pricy but everything is fresh and premium quality. Taste like they do everything from scratch. Even the water tasted good. Clearly the bring you filtered water. And for my birthday they brought some amazing ice cream. All I can say is thank you for such a wonderful birthday meal. Almost made skipping Disney worth it.

We were there Saturday December 6th after the Tempe Arts festival. I'd read about their Beard Award nomination and wanted to try it. I grew up in Somerton Az across from San Luis Sonora. I ordered the carnitas tacos and my husband ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. The flavors were incredible and took me back to my childhood. The heirloom corn tortilla look small but were full of pork carnitas; the flavors were outstanding. The enchiladas were just as amazing. The waiter (Josh) and executive chef (Roberto Quintero) chatted with us extensively and made us feel at home. We both mentioned the fried potato tacos from Sonora that we grew up eatng. He made some and brought them out and they were just as incredible. This establishment was one of the best (if not the best) Mexican restaurants I've been to in a bit. It's not your regular mexican cantina style food. They cook with their soul, flavor and most importantly, family! We will definitely be back and looking forward to their other establishments. Finally, people that care about the food they prepare......it shows!

Been wanting to try Cocina Chiwas for some time, and finally made it there for our anniversary dinner. Having been to Tacos Chiwas and Espiritu, we knew that the meal and cocktails would be great and our expectations were exceeded. The ambiance was perfect, seasonal cocktails were superb and our fantastic server helped us find the perfect mix of menu must haves (if you like oysters- try both ways!) and specials. Service from all staff members was excellent. We will definitely be back.
Last night we celebrated my mother's 77th birthday at Cocina Chiwas, and it was perfect. 💛 The hospitality was warm and genuine, our waitress curated and recommended the most delicious cocktails, and every dish was impeccably prepared. Such a special evening — grateful for experiences like this and the people who make them memorable. ✨
