Probably one of, if not the best coffee roaster in the valley. Cortez is the only roaster with direct access to 3-5 Costa Rican farms, providing beans just unavailable to most other roasteries. Second they use traditional air roasters and degas their beans for 4-7 days before bagging. If you're a coffee head, this is your place. If you're happy with the grocery store, sample their coffees slowly with an open mind. Cortez coffee is to grocery store coffee, what Hershey's is to fine swiss chocolate.Just to ponder:Cortez has coffee that tastes like cherries and chocolate (with no sugar added), apricot and spice, cardamom and clove - basically flavors I didn't know could exist in coffee or anywhere. It's an other worldly experience. I'm a little hesitant sharing this, I don't want my favorite coffee roaster to change!!Note:As of November 2023, one of their suppliers suddenly passed away, they should have a new shipment in before or first week of March 24.

I started with Nepal, but every coffee I’ve tried has been top notch. My plan this year was to try a variety of roasters, and I will do that… but I keep coming back to Cortez.

I tried to go here in person to buy coffee beans after getting a referral and their doors were locked during business hours. I saw another review after the fact that said they're not open to the public? The hours need to be changed at least if that's the case. I drove all the way out to Tempe for nothing.

Finally found our local roaster! After a trip abroad this summer we decided to buy a quality grinder and espresso machine. Unfortunately every local roaster we have tried so far has not been up to par, either inconsistent beans or poor flavor. But finally we found Cortez Coffee! They not only hit the mark, they surpassed it! Fresh roasted beans made every order and perfect taste!

I have purchased multiple roasts from Cortez; however, recently i purchased the Roaster Blend and it was the worst blend I have ever tried. I opened the bag and noticed the beans smelled burned. After grinding, the smell intensified. Brewed a few cups for my friends and myself... we all dumped the burned tasting coffee after a few sips.I will continue to purchase Cortez coffee, except for the Roaster blend. Total waste of money.

Just got my first order in the other day, ordered whole bean from Nepal. Shipping was fast. Their website is awesome. Top notch customer service is definitely their focus. The coffee itself is next level. The scent, the appearance, the taste is caffeinated perfection. I'd write this coffee a poem if it could read. I can't pick out flavors like nutty creamy caramel, because my palate is not up to par apparently, but it tastes simply awesome. You'd be committing a crime against nature by putting anything in this. However, it's your beans so you do with them what you will, I'm doing mine neat.Next up is the Volcan Azul and I can't wait to try that.Coffee fans you must absolutely check this company out.

So, this is not a storefront anymore, it is just their roasting headquarters. It used to have a small countertop bar but I think that moved downtown. They’re closed to the public right now. Their actual coffee shop (congrats on opening) is on 2245 E Washington Ave. There you can get them to make you a cup or espresso.Their coffee is hands down the freshest, the tastiest, and the most convenient. I’ve been mail-ordering beans recently, but in the past it was easy to walk in, get a tour of the facility, and pick and choose from the huge blue plastic totes of beans (see other review pictures). Now, I think with permits/license, it’s too much a headache for them to do.Skip the grocery stores, stick with the street cred. Get coffee beans that are roasted in town one day and on your doorstep the next day. You’ll pay the premium per pound but you deserve difference in quality.

Custom Coffee Roaster Ron Cortez has been in the coffee business for some time! Very good wholesale and retail coffee. We chatted about chasing the perfect cup of coffee for hours. He has both coffee and Chocolate and some teas. Plus beautiful porcelain pour over coffee makers. A nice coffee/espresso bar, very enjoyable experience!

Ron is an amazing educator on making an expresso. His coffee is fabulous. He spends time explaining about the beans and the differences. Shop is clean and pleasant to be in.

Our Southwest flight was canceled so I quickly Yelped a nearby coffee place after a quick trip to Papago Park. This place is awesome! Ron, the owner, was very knowledgeable about all things coffee. It was a great way to end our Arizona trip and make the drive back to California. We ended up buying 2 cups of coffee, the garbanzo bean spread, the coffee spread, and two kinds of cacao nibs LOL. The garbanzo bean spread was my favorite :) We were caffeinated for our drive thanks to Cortez Coffee :)

Very nice people inside, I gave it three stars because they don’t have a menu and it was very confusing to get a drink. They are a Roaster but not a coffee shop but give out drinks sometimes?
