Truly an excellent restaurant, and I'll be sad to see it go. Get your reservations in now before the owners retire. Have been several times over several years and I've never had a bad dish. I had the pork shank this time and it was delicious (as were the scallops). If I'm being honest the service was a bit slow tonight and the bar was not on their A game, but I can certainly cut them some slack since it was a Tuesday night and only about a month away from closing. Will come again one more time before the end!
The ahi tuna is seared to perfection with a blend of Wasabi and what tasted like a coconut curry. The mixed drink was alright was expecting more cinnamon spice but it really hit with the orange zest. The desert though that was a palate pleaser. The chocolate was not super sweet but that peanut butter brittle melts in your mouth just don't chew much otherwise it'll rip out a filling.
We've been going to Tricks for 25 years. We thought we'd go one last time before they close for good. Today was the worst experience ever at Tricks, something unimaginable to us in the 2.5 decades we've been going there with colleagues, family, and friends. We complained about the arrogance of the servers and lousy service and I said I'd write a bad review. The response from THREE different workers there: "we don't care what you do, we're closing anyway." Wow Wow! We left the restaurant without eating. If this treatment is any indication of their attitude now that they're closing, we didn't want to risk eating their food! How very sad that this is how Tricks is ending its legacy in Tempe. Terribly disappointed!!
Amazing food. Perfection!!!! Great service, great atmosphere. I hope to go again before they close. Get those reservations people, your truly missing out.
Excellent food and cocktails, service was outstanding and they were very busy. I heard this place was closing on June. Disappointed because I would return.
Sitting outside has a Parisian feel tucked right in next to ASU campus. The mussels were to die for & so was the Veal shank! Desserts were great too!
We found this gem 10 years ago during spring training and it has become our favorite restaurant. We usually sit at the bar and enjoy the the friendliness and professionalism of the bartenders and servers. The atmosphere is relaxing as most tables are outside under the trees. The food is always excellent. My favorite dish is the mussels served in a tasty chorizo creamy broth with crusty toasted bread for dipping. It doesn't get any better.
Had a business dinner with four and we were all very pleased. The mozzarella salad was tasty and just the right portion before dinner. The Beef Tenderloin was excellent. Took very little to cut and melted in my mouth. The other three people had the seared Ahi Tuna and were very pleased. A great choice for outside seating. Very good service. Was offered dessert but was too full to consider it.
The cocktails are on point and have a good amount of alcohol in them. Cozy indoor seating and more lively outdoor seating.
We had a marvelous dinner tonight. The beef tenderloin was melt-in-your-mouth good and the swordfish was done just right. We ordered a side of Noble bread also. Then dessert was warm peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream which we shared. Everything was scrumptious and our waitress, Ruth, gave us excellent service. The only issue was the parking. After driving in a circle for 10 minutes or so we ended up in the parking garage just west of the restaurant. A short walk and you're there!

Disappointing food, hard/stale bread
Our party of 4 had a late resy for 8:45 p.m. Our server greeted us and straight away we could tell that she was ready to be done for the night. We ordered a bottle of wine, the bread/butter and two salads. All of that was great. The salads were delicious. Our group ordered the meatloaf, beef tenderloin x2 and the ahi tuna. The meatloaf came out and was steaming. It was delicious. Both tenderloins were barely warm, carrots were cold, potatoes were the warmest. The ahi tuna was also lukewarm. Everything had a great taste. After we were done eating, we informed our server of the temperature of the food. There was no, "I am so sorry" or any platitudes, no visit from the manger, nothing. Just disappointed that for the price of the meal more care wasn't given to our experience. My meal of meatloaf was the only perfect experience. Based on that, I would return and give it another try. The others in my group do not plan to return.
Great service and food. Great patio area
What makes the House of Tricks is its ambiance. Just a beautiful place to meet friends, have dinner or just have drinks at the very small and cozy bar. Have eaten outside, gorgeous, and in the dining room. And had cocktails at the bar. Food is very good, but nowhere near spectacular. Martinis are expensive. So you go, or at least I do, for the setting , the vibe, the feel. Highly recommended for date night or special occasion celebration.
House of Tricks is a place we went into with some expectations based off of other places we have been to with similar price points and dining experience.I'd recommend outdoor seating, there are plenty of heaters and no one should worry about being to chilly. We preferred to dine inside, so given the option that's what we chose but both agreed we made the wrong choice. The staff was prompt and professional. Made sure we had whatever we needed and did not let empty plates linger on the table for too long. The cocktail menu was short and left some to be desired. I'd recommend if you enjoy cocktails to not put too high of expectations on these drinks. The wine was selection was great and afterFor the appetizer we got the foie gras with the oat cracker. This dish is not a shareable appetizer, it might be enough to keep hunger at bay till the main course. The presentation is beautiful but if you are wanting to have a more filling appetizer, I'd recommend something that is not this. Not that is bad, my fault for going for the expensive appetizer with ignorance. The bison meatloaf is very good and the halibut was nice too. Lots of great choices on the main course menu and I definitely would like to try more of them. For dessert our order was the chocolate pot de creme. Again, the presentation was great and a beautifully dressed dish. The taste of this was more peanut butter than chocolate but not so much you couldn't taste the other parts of the dish but it was definitely the dominant taste. This dish did leave a burning sensation in our both of our throats which made us wonder if they added some chilli powder to the chocolate or maybe there was coco powder in the dish that had that affect. All in all, it was nice and good but in comparison to comparable restaurants it was okay. I'd recommend for people to try but not to every person.
