This is nothing against the workers but against the company:
Well, I just ate my last Jimmy John's until they change this policy. Really? Non compete for sandwich makers?! What scary golden secrets could they possibly pass on to Subway or Quizno's that would threaten the JJ business model? How not to provide sugar for iced tea? How to have customers bag their own order while employees stand around? How to not provide salt and pepper? Riiiiight.
