We are from the Philippines, and we were in Tempe for a couple of weeks in early August 2024. We enjoyed the food in Viet Shack twice (!) during our short stay. Very memorable was their fried chicken… it was huge! … crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside.

I got the grilled pork banh mi and it was phenomenal! Meat was marinated and full of flavor, the bread had a beautiful flaky crust, veggies were crisp and fresh. Definitely a no frills hole in the wall with great service but the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of food. Paid less than $10 for my bahn mi.

Great food, nice service. I got the Bun Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork) Vermicelli bowl & my son got the crispy fried chicken Mi Xao (stir fried noodles). We also got the Char Siu pork spring roll appetizer. Loved it all! Highly recommend this place.
Most importantly this place was clean and the hospitality was excellent. This place was immaculate. We were greeted immediately as we walked in and with a smile. The person who assisted us was Tong, very friendly and knowledgeable of his food they have. This was our first time coming here because we were referred here by a friend and let tell you we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious and the food presentation was beautiful. We had a to go order to as well and literally 2 minutes before we were done our to go order was ready. Our food for dine in was brought to our table ❤️. If you’re looking for good food and a mom and pops restaurant this is it. Support small owned businesses.
Friendly staff, clean restaurant, and the the food is very good. My favorites are the Lotus Root Salad, Banh Mi, and the wings, but I could totally see this being an “order one of everything” type of place.
Checked Viet Shack out for lunch after reading an article about them. I probably wouldn't get the shack shrimp again but the egg rolls were very tasty. I also tried the pork bhan mi with egg which was fantastic. The roll was nice and crispy and the meat was generous and the veggies were fresh. I will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

Smaller vietnamese restaurant that cover their menu really well. The quarter hind chicken leg is my absolute favorite to pair with the fried rice or garlic noodles. The portion is just huge for the price! I've tried a lot of the menu and I would also suggest the sweet and sour chicken wings or the banh mi with char siu pork. Good people making good food. ?
My friend and I were looking for a light dinner and everything we got was perfect for that. The tofu vermicelli bowl was good and the tofu was crispy on the outside and so silky on the inside. The spring rolls were a classic and a great small appetizer. The man at the cash register was super helpful and nice. I’ll have to come back soon!
