I’ve now been to both locations of Cafe Français and they’re basically the same, as far as I can tell. The Alvernon location has a few outdoor tables if you feel like snarfing down an amazing pastry in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in Tucson, which I did. Anyway, the mini kouign amann was the star of both locations. (The counter folk just call it a “queen” for short, whew) I asked and they said they always make these, which is a relief because it might be addictive.
On one occasion I thought it would be a good idea to take it home and heat it up in the oven, but then the delightfully crunchy caramelized sugar melts and runs off. DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!! Just eat it—it’s absolutely perfect.
They frequently change up the other offerings, which is pretty cool because they have some creative flavor combinations and I wanted to try practically all of them.
-I tried a pistachio danish, which was a little too sweet for me, but I’m not acclimated to eating sweets.
-the madeleines were chocolate dipped and had a sugary, crunchy chocolate drizzle plus cacao nibs. I actually prefer them plain, but didn’t see any plain ones. Maybe sometimes they have plain?
-the eclairs are just lovely and everything you’d hope them to be, not inexplicably filled with whipped cream instead of custard like they are at that other “French” bakery! (Not naming names here).
This is now one of my favorite spots in Tucson. I only wish they were open every day, because every now and then we need a little something special to get us through M, T, and W.

Our first visit but not our last. I wanted to try everything. It's all beautiful, it's all art. There is art on the walls and in the pastry cases. A lot of the art you get to eat! I tried the Caramel Carrot Cake Smasher and it was a lovely treat that I savored and didn't rush through, because I didn't want it to end. The first bites were delightful, but as the experience developed, I was met with a blissful surprise. And then, another. I'll let you find out for yourself. Go.

I tried a captain crunch macaron that was a light delicious flavor. The chocolate filled croissant was decadent and perfectly flaky. I also tried a peach pastry with cinnamon and sugar topping that I don't remember the name of that was to die for. This place might become a weekly stop. ❤️

Purchased croissants last year and this year for my wife's birthday. They're excellent, and she has deemed them the best in Tucson.
Delicious looking pastries with a decent variety to choose from. Most were better than average for French pastry in Tucson but not up to French standards. Beware - on the expensive side for breakfast pastries.

The only french style bakery in Tucson, so for that reason it’s good. Pastries are decent, although not as good and more expensive than the best options in other cities. Coffee was horrible, asked to add only a small amount of flavor and it tasted like it was half syrup. If I come back I would just get pastries to go.
When we heard a pastry shop was coming to our neighborhood I set out to research who what when. Turns out they had a location I had never heard of so my son and I went on an adventure to their location on the east side. We were absolutely in love with their pastries, especially one horchata crème brûlée. We told them we were excited about their second location. I even posted it in our neighborhood page. I’m excited to have them in our neighborhood, their pastries and drinks are delicious. Sending them much success 🥐

I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting the new location but I will absolutely be doing that very soon! I am so pleased to see a business like this flourish and grow. Not only are the pastries incredible, but the owners and staff are genuinely wonderful people. My daughter and I made it a tradition to stop by the bakery every Thursday morning for two school years in a row. When their hours changed to a later time, I sent them a message letting them know we were bummed we wouldn’t be able to stop in before school, but we would still make it a point to come by when we could. Instead of a generic reply, the sweet owner offered to let us in early on those Thursday mornings so my little girl and I could continue to get our croissants and macarons. I will never stop telling people about this amazing business and the most fantastic French pastries we’ve ever had.

My family and I look forward to the weekly posts about what delicious menu items the Cafe Francais team has baked up. I‘ve had stellar service at both Tucson locations. Unmatched baking perfection!

We absolutely love having this bakery right next door to our tattoo shop! Not only do they have amazing treats, but every time we walk in, we’re greeted with such a warm welcome. We love sending our clients over to try them out — and they never disappoint! Micheal always remembers my regular drink (seriously, the best!), and my wife is always happy when I come home with goodies from here. Couldn’t ask for better neighbors or better desserts!
