Used to be so good. Server put in wrong order and let us know after waiting more than a reasonable amount of time that it had to be redone. When the food did arrived mine looked like it had been mugged on the way over. The 3 or 4oz of chicken had annoying little pieces of cartilage in it, the squash was tasty but a little too salty and greasy. The nopales and green beans were good and only a little overcooked. I feel like my bowl was made first in haste because of how it initially looked with a half a handful of wilted greens kind of spread over the top as if to hide the lack of care of the food underneath. The server also forgot my friends guacamole and was a no show to fill waters, see how we were doing or present a check. I wish this wasn't true, I love Charros.

Delicious as always! We enjoyed a delicious and quiet New Year's Eve dinner at Charro Vida. This was our 5th time eating there. The food is always so good!

We ordered 4 different vegan dishes and all were excellent. They were low on the spicy level, which was what I was hoping for. I would call this good “vegan junk food.”

Charro Vida has redone their entire menu - well sort of. Their dinner menu is a bit more upscale and a bit pricier, but hey, someone has to pay for their recent redesign. That said, they are no longer a vegan-centric restaurant although they do have some vegan offerings. Their new menu offers a more universal appeal. The bad news is that their very popular Vida Bowls do not appear on the dinner menu, and while they still offer vegan options, it would be great to see maybe a low carb tortilla option for people on a keto diet. Overall I won't raise the rating because the higher price doesn't make sense with this particular menu. Don't get me wrong. You will still get the very delicious food that makes El Charro a Tucson gem, it's just that in this case their price for value is overreaching just a bit.

First visit to Charro Vida, and overall would give it 4 stars. The food was decent, enjoyed the Yucca fries and burger.
Had to lower to 4 stars due to:
Chips/salsa: the three salsa choices were all good, but disappointing small serving of chips for $5. Served in a cereal bowl, and never offered refill.
Prickly pear/lemonade: again, what’s up with the small glass? 8-10 oz glass full of ice. Probably about 5 oz of drink.

We met our friends for dinner. We came due to the interesting menu and it did not disappoint. We all had their non alcoholic drinks and all were great. We shared the nachos and really liked them esp for being vegetarian. I tried a bowl and two other people on our table tried the burrito , and the other tried the Chilli Relono. Apart from my bowl - all portion sizes were huge and everyone has left overs. All the food was great and I will come back as I want to try their tamales again. Service was great. Our server told us he was new but he did great.

Dietary restrictions: They have options for vegan cheese and there are few dishes that can be gluten free

The Honey and I are trying all the vegan places in town, and since it's a bit of a hike from where we are, we've never made it to CharroVida. I'm glad we finally made it!

I don't know what's wrong with many places here, but they treat you like a leper if you come within an hour of closing. I was a server back in the day so if a customer came in, we'd welcome them in and advise accordingly.

We asked to sit outside and were pleasantly accommodated. Ever (yes, that's their name!) was our server providing outstanding service, happily answered my hundred questions, and was genuinely welcoming.

So the service was great - how about the food?

We got orders of yucca street fries and one hola hemp tamal to share, and we both got the three sister taco plates with mushroom tacos.

The flavors were indescribably yummy, the food tasted fresh -- like they harvested the veggies that morning! I was a bit dubious about the Hola Hemp tamale, but I got over myself! The only small ding is that the yucca fries had salt on them when we asked for none. We're both salt sensitive so any added salt is a challenge when we dine out.

Sorry, no pics, we gobbled up the deliciousness and really didn't have an insta-worthy pic to post. Suffice it to say, we also came home with leftovers!

I think we found our new fave restaurant!

Update: Sonoran Restaurant Week. The chef may have had an off-night, or perhaps it was because we came an hour before closing (an unfortunate theme in Tucson), but our tortillas were cold, the food tepid, and after I specified no salt on the yucca fries, there was a pile of that and pepper on the bottom of the serving bowl. Please do better! You were so promising on our first foray at CharroVida, please keep up the good work.

Vegetarian options: Mostly vegan! But meat eaters have choices, too.

Dietary restrictions: Vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free can rejoice!

I ate here several years ago and it was very good. Today I took a friend there for brunch. We were seated right away, but it took 10 minutes for water. The OJ did not come until we asked again when the breakfast was served. I ordered my breakfast without cheese but it came with cheese. I did not want to send it back so I could avoid another extended waiting. Our breakfast were extremely salty. A bite of the scrambled eggs tasted bitter before of too much salt. When we were ready to pay, we could not find our waiter. I went to the front desk to see whether I could pay there. Nope. The hostess asked many questions about what our waiter looked like. Well, I could not remember all details she needed so she asked me to go back to the table to keep waiting. Finally another lady came by and asked what we needed and she was able to take my credit card.

So delicious! Everything we got was amazing. So fresh, and you can tell the food was made with love. The staff were kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommend anything with the habanero salsa, Brussel sprouts and the mint ice green tea.
