HUB Restaurant & Ice Creamery

Quite frankly, last night at The Hub/Playground was one of the finest nights I have ever had in Tucson, and we eat out A LOT! The purpose of last night's soiree was to celebrate the release of Whiskey Del Bac's Small Batch Bourbon "Sentinel," which is simply outstanding in its own right. So good that I bought three (3) bottles to give as gifts to three (3) very lucky close friends: my brother, Brian, my close friend, confidante, and Ricoh copier expert, Anthony, and the parents of my significant other's daughter's boyfriend's parents, John & Sunny who live in San Diego. If you enjoy small batch bourbons, you MUST purchase a bottle or, better yet, a case of Whiskey Del Bac's "Sentinel." The food prepared by The Hub/Playground matched with each tastefully created cocktail using Sentinel Small Batch Bourbon, of which there were three (3) dishes, was incredible and are on the menu of The Hub. There was a delicious chicken, braised beef rib and salmon dish. We loved them ALL!!! We will return for sure. The food was incredibly good and the service was absolutely perfect! But what also made the night were the presence of Whiskey Del Bac's Master Distiller & Blender, Mark A. Vierthaler and his wife, and their personable Marketing Director, Ariel. Folks, take it from an alleged "gentleman" and "scholar" but actual "judge of good whiskey," they are creating something very special at Whiskey Del Bac. Finally, the events of last night cannot go unnoticed without mentioning the solo guitarist, "Freddy J." who reminds me of a hip and soulful George Benson in a cowboy hat. The man is a huge talent in every respect of the word. If you see a release party involving Whiskey Del Bac or any reason to imbibe Whiskey Del Bac products anywhere, do it! You will not be disappointed; especially if it is combined with The Hub and Playground. Simply put: among the finest events anywhere and at any time.

Perfect timing for dinner before concert or events. Many great choices to choose from. I haven't had any thing that I wouldn't order again. The ability to make a reservation is key for downtown busy times. Service is very good.

Such a cool place after the renovation, great job. Everything was awesome except the noise from the place Nextdoor, such obnoxious bass and noise overpowering our conversation. Maybe because it was Friday night, but staff and food were excellent. Thanks

Their food is great. The grilled artichokes are very flavorful, although they could be cooked a little longer. The ricotta gnocchi and the steak were excellent. I do wish they would expand their entrée selections a little more, as there are only about nine of them.

After two years returned to Hub for pre concert dinner. Very happy and very good meal. Waiter was fast and efficient. Very tasty calamari but rings very very small, not what I saw on way to table. Running out? Kitchen control missed? Short ribs great! Good portion, fair price, nice entree chef! Nice vodka hibiscus drink. Overall really enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back. Really good food, fairly priced.

Great vibe, drinks were good. A bit pricey for Tucson but good quality and delicious. Our group had the salmon, chicken pot pie, sausage gnocchi, and beef & brie and all enjoyed it.

This is seriously the best food I’ve had in a very long time! Excellent corn and avocado salad -get the shrimp skewer on top. The ice cream is insane! Made in-house!!

Enjoyed sitting at the bar and having brunch, our server Eric was great and made sure we had everything we needed.

We ordered multiple dishes and all were delicious. The decor and ambiance is cool and chic. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful restaurant. Had been wanting to try it for awhile and got the filet mignon, pretzel Knots, and a couple of drinks. Server was attentive, but also not TOO attentive where you're trying to respond every so often with a mouthful of food. Food was delicious, cooked perfectly, and a cute lil place to take someone for date or a visitor from out of town as you also have the downtown area to walk around after. The price point is a bit more than other restaurants, as it's more of a fine dining experience. Total bill ended up being $130 not including the tip, which is still not bad for what you're getting!

We have been loyal customers for 4 years. I loved the ahi tuna nachos and my wife, the pastrami sandwiches.
Last night (Labor Day) we took our friend’s whole family for a meal. I noticed that the nachos had been deleted from the menu. I was very disappointed to say the least. I asked the server about it and she said the newish chef had changed the menu. My friends ordered the pastrami which they’ve had before. They said the bun is now a pretzel bun and no longer on rye. And the pastrami does not taste near as good as it did before. Is it still house made? I ordered the corn avocado salad. I had to ask the server for more corn as there were about 4 kernels in the salad.
Bottom line, we were very disappointed in our meals and will not be returning.
On a positive note, the waitstaff was great.
