Hidden gem. Great menu, lots of variety. I think their grilled items are the best, and the pho happy hour is a great deal. Probably my favorite Viet in the city

I had wanted to try this place for the longest time after the reviews and seeing some pictures of the portions etc. Wow was I disappointed. My babies got sick so we could not go in person and decided to use skip the dishes and order for my birthday dinner. We ordered the BBH and Mami's vermicelli bowl. The portions were ridiculous and nothing compared to the pictures in the reviews or online. Not sure if it's because it's take out. The soup was the worst. The amount of noodles was shocking and not only were they cheap on the meat but it was mostly just tough fat. It was not worth the $40 dollars I spent and it actually just ruined my day. I'm not one to order take out all the time but wanted to treat myself and this just proved why. Honestly, if this is your practice and the portion sizes are different than in restaurant, you should make that known on your website so we don't feel like we've been cheated.

I live nearby but haven't been in since the kids convinced Mami to NOT sell Brokenrice in 2024 and instead let them take over and rebrand as Chao Mami! And I hope Mami is proud of Steven & Jennifer because Chao Mami has taken Brokenrice to the next level! The interior & decor alone, HUGE upgrade from before! So colourful, bright, airy, and I LOVE the mural!

My fiancée went last weekend and came back RAVING about the food so we both went in today for lunch and everything was awesome. Full restaurant, fun vibe, GREAT service (shout out to Steven for busting his butt just like the rest of his staff) but the food is what will keep us coming back. The Butter Beef, so succulent! The Garlic Butter Wings, so juicy & crispy! The Luc Lac, so balanced!

I think we've found our new favourite Viet spot!

I like the seasoning at this restaurant, and the two dishes in the photos are very similar to the food from my country. That's why I like to order the Shaken beef and the other exclusive rice dishes.

The $10 pho is a steal! I also got the coconut coffee slush off of the happy hour menu as well, and I liked it!

I arrived right at 2pm, and had to wait approximately 15 minutes for a table to open up as it was peak time for them. But the restaurant had cleared out by 2:30! They have a nice atmosphere.

Nice clean quiet spot to get good soup. Food as expected - Duck slider was great.
Service a bit slow, and everything is an up charge.

Recommend for quality and flavor

I’ve read so many good reviews of this place, had an opportunity to meet up with a girlfriend to have dinner here.
The restaurant had a good vibe, we were seated right away. They have the $10 happy hour menu until 6, we were there around 5:20pm. It wasn’t a full line up at the door but restaurant was fairly busy with delivery que and seated patrons. We had the Phnem phen wrap, chicken wings, beef carpaccio and $10 pho. I have to say they were all underwhelming and tasteless as non of them were seasoned with anything. Vietnam is FULL of flavours I don’t understand how the fried wings had bland taste. Maybe it was missing the dipping sauce? Same with the phnem phen wrap, it was so bland, the dipping sauce was barely enough to flavour it. Beef carpaccio was not what we expected, it was half cooked and the sauce was flooding the beef(we sent it back and they were gracious enough to take it off the bill). The $10 pho was just ok, not to expect a whole lot for $10, broth was a bit too sweet for my taste(we had to ask the server for the plate of bean sprouts as it doesn’t come with the $10, I thought why wouldn’t the server tell you that when we order?)
Overall, I have to say it’s not what I thought it would be in taste or the experience. If you want your worth of $10($11 if you want the sprouts), I recommend the pho but otherwise…. Meh…

$10 pho for happy hour isn't much of a deal when it's basically a small pho and comes with 0 condiments. $3 for a tiny bit of bean sprouts puts this in for $13 which is in line with other vietnamese restaurants.

Chili Oil needs to be requested and they give you a tiny little bit when other spots have a jar at tableside. I really despise this 'modern' approach with newer vietnamese restaurants.

The table where I was seated was a 2-person table that was so small and uncomfortable for a bigger guy that I couldn't even slide my thighs underneath the table as the table legs were super narrow. I've never had this happen before at any other restaurants. I'm 6'2 and it made me feel like a giant.

Even if I can overlook the pho, the seating was so uncomfortable that I'll never give a second thought of ever returning.

P.s.
The bigger viet girl with glasses needs to get her attitude checked. She served me when I arrived, no welcomes, didn't even ask what I wanted until I had to tell her what I want. She said nothing when she approached to me. She just had a bad aura all around. The smaller viet girl was nice and more cheerful when she brought me the food.
