We came here for a friend's 40th birthday because she enjoys the food, but the server today wasn't really up to the usual standard. She didn't seem to like her job and barely smiled. The other servers were great though, they commented on our balloons, the energy and our outfits!

We ordered a few dishes, the rigatoni being my favourite (flavourful and big portion). The ravioli was overcooked and dry with veey little sauce, and the bolognese was bland. The Boscaiola was my second fav dish, mainly because I love mushrooms and it was cooked very well. Creamy and delicious.

We also ordered appetizers. The calamari was tasty and had some fried zucchinis and bell peppers, which were a nice touch. The trio dip was also đŸ‘ŒđŸ» except that they need to provide extra pita for the large amount of dips.

Overall the experience was good, except we hoped for a better server to make it better.

Service: A Masterclass in What Not to Do
From the moment we sat down, it was clear that customer service was not a priority here. The waitress, who seemed genuinely inconvenienced by our presence, barely cracked a smile the entire evening.
-
Instead of properly serving plates from the side, she reached across the table multiple times, disrupting conversations and making the experience awkward.
When taking our orders, she struggled to hear us and made us repeat everything instead of simply stepping closer. Yelling our orders across the table was not exactly the dining experience we had in mind.
The overall attitude was indifferent at best, and sulky at worst. A little warmth and attentiveness would have gone a long way.
The Menu Confusion: A Rigid and Frustrating Policy
Our excitement for a rare family night out was quickly dampened by an inflexible and frankly absurd menu policy. We were only informed after ordering drinks that we had to choose from either the dine-out menu or the à la carte menu—no mixing allowed. Why restrict guests like this? If anything, our order value would have been higher had we been allowed to order freely. Instead, we reluctantly stuck to the dine-out menu just to avoid further hassle.
-
Drinks: Bitter Disappointment
Hoping to start the evening on a high note, we ordered a selection of six cocktails. Every single one had an overpowering bitter taste, with an unpleasant dusty, cellar-like undertone. Maybe that’s what "authentic" Italian cocktails are supposed to taste like, but if so, they completely missed the mark for us. Nothing was balanced, nothing was exciting—just uninspired drinks that left us wishing we had stuck to water.

The Food: A Collection of Regrets
Appetizer: Caramelized Cherry Tomato & Ricotta Crostini
A crostini should be crisp, warm, and bursting with flavor. Instead, we were served cold bread topped with lifeless roasted tomatoes and bland ricotta. The dish was forgettable and uninspired, lacking any seasoning or contrast to make it remotely exciting. If this was meant to set the tone for the meal, we should have taken it as a warning sign.
-
Entrée: Pear & Gorgonzola Pizza
The biggest offense of the night. This pizza was pure sugar overload, with no balance of flavors to justify its existence. The missing prosciutto, which could have added much-needed saltiness, was an upcharge, turning this into a blatant cash grab. Whoever designed this dish either has an incredibly sweet tooth or no concept of contrast in food. A complete disaster of a pizza.
-
Dessert: CrÚme Brûlée
The only semi-decent part of the meal—though that’s not saying much. The custard tasted store-bought, and the sugar top was partially melted, robbing us of that satisfying crack when breaking into a classic crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e. It was edible, but far from the elevated dessert we had hoped for.

Final Thoughts: A Restaurant That Needs Serious Improvement
This place looked great in pictures, but the reality was a huge letdown. Between poor service, rigid menu policies, uninspired drinks, and disappointing food, it’s clear that this restaurant needs a serious wake-up call.

To the owner:

Train your staff to provide basic customer service. A smile and a little attentiveness go a long way.
Be flexible with your menu. A dine-out menu should entice customers, not frustrate them.
Improve your food. Stop cutting corners, and understand the balance of flavors.
With so many great restaurants out there, we won’t be wasting another night here.

We went to have dinner for a friend's birthday. I was really looking forward to have Italian food, so I ordered lots of food.
The food had great portion. Overall it was good!
The service is the highlight of this review. Absolutely, disappointing. Right from the start, the waitress had no motivation to serve. No welcome, not smiling and very minimal talking. I can totally understand if someone is having a bad day, but it was not just one thing. Aside from the minimal talking, I asked for hot water 2 times, and kept forgetting. The patio was slightly cold, so I asked if they could turn up the heater, they said it was the max. But she offered blankets. But she never brought them. Then, I asked another lady and she helped to turn up the heater and brought 3 blankets.
For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu and some other dessert. Took easily 15 minutes to a dessert that doesn't require to cook. Literally cut a portion and put on a plate. She gave the excuse that kitchen takes their time...
Finally, we asked for the bill and, again, no motivation, no thank you, nothing. Just walked away after returning the terminal.
Last night I also had Italian food at Oporto at Gastown. Service was great and I tipped 25%. Here, sorry, 15% only because I know I still know she is working, but otherwise it should be a 10%. Absolutely, disappointing experience.
Lastly, asked for the receipt, she said wifi is not working, printer not working. She asked to wait. Never came back.

Okay food, okay service—but absolutely horrible hospitality.

I ordered the seafood linguine (3/5), calamari (3/5), and affogato (4.5/5) and a drink. The food itself was fine, but the experience was completely ruined by the disorganized service. Timing was a disaster—meals didn’t come out together, and some people at our table had already finished eating while others hadn’t even received their appetizers. When we asked about the delay, we were told there was an issue with the printers, but only after we inquired—no proactive communication at all.

Jeremy and Kevin were the only ones who showed professionalism and were kind, but the supervisor/manager was a huge disappointment. Instead of addressing our concerns, she ignored us completely, checked on other tables, and then left without a word. The lack of basic hospitality was shocking. A little communication and basic hospitality would have gone a long way.

Wouldn’t recommend unless management seriously improves.

Food was pretty good, needed more salt. Also got sat near the patio doors and was pretty cold before people sat on the patio and they turned on the heat.

I recently visited Claudio's Ristorante with my family, and while the food (pasta and pizza) was excellent and truly top-notch, the service left us extremely disappointed and concerned.

The issue arose when we inquired about the tiramisu dessert. It looked fantastic, but knowing my wife is pregnant and cannot consume alcohol, we specifically asked our server (the young lady in tattoo sleeve) if the tiramisu contained any alcohol. She repeatedly insisted it did not. We even asked her to double-check with the chef to verify but somehow, she never get back to us. However, we later asked another server, who confirmed it does contain alcohol.

This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. Providing false information about food ingredients to its customers poses a significant risk, particularly for someone pregnant. Consuming alcohol during pregnancy can have severe consequences for both the mother and the baby. I also had a toddler at the table. If my child had eaten the dessert, believing it to be alcohol-free based on the server’s false assurance, the liability would have been enormous. As a restaurant serving families, there is no excuse for this kind of negligence.

Thankfully, we sought a second opinion and avoided what could have been a dangerous situation, but the lack of care and accurate knowledge from the server is deeply concerning.

Restaurants have a responsibility to ensure their staff is well-informed about their menu items, especially when it comes to ingredients that could harm certain guests. Mistakes like this are not just inconvenient—they are potentially harmful.

While we loved the food, this experience has made it difficult for us to recommend or return to the restaurant.

People want this place to survive as they have customers. The food was good, not great though.

Service was terrible it seems like management might need a manager, seemed very disorganized.

Other than that, if they figure it out, it will be a great place to hang out.

The atmosphere was great, food was okay
pizza 10/10 carbonara shouldnt even be called carbonara 1/10 rigatoni 8/10

but the service?..

As a server myself Im a heavy tipper, but oh my did it ruin my date night. After sitting down, the only time servers ever came without us having to flag them down was when we were ready for the bill.

Was the restaurant busy? Not at all, more than 3 servers and half the tables were open.

3 servers even after making eye contact avoided giving us more water with the empty water bottle clearly on the table.

Not a single server asked how the food was so I couldn’t even ask for a coke as they never came during my meal and i was not about to flag one of them down again.

Trusted the good reviews but i will definitely not return :(

Food was delicious but service is awful. It took 10-15mins to get some water it was not even that busy. Despite having bad service we gave a $10 tip and the lady server did not look happy. She needs to find another job that is not in service industry.
