The soup base is better than Bigway not gonna lie. All you can drink on milk tea and ice cream is a plusđŸ„č there are numerous parking spots on the side street

I have been eating Malatang brand Liu for many years. Every time I enter the store, the dishes are fresh and clean, and the taste is authentic and classic. Charlotte’s service at Kingsway store also makes people feel very comfortable. I check in often because my husband also likes to eat😋

This was my second visit to this restaurant. I ordered the medium-spicy mala soup flavor, which was good. I also ordered rice, but when my friend and I checked the rice cooker, there was only a small amount left at the bottom. Compared to my previous visit, the rice was disappointingly dry, as if it had been sitting for a while. The price varies depending on the weight of the items you put in your bowl, but additional charges apply for certain ingredients like an abalone.

I've been coming to Grandma Liu since it opened and this year, with more competition from other similar restaurants, the quality of food and cooking has been steadily declining—with my last visit last week being the worst of them all.

I went there for dinner last week and it was terrible. They appeared to be low on every item in the self-serve area, not one was full, some only had a few pieces in it or were empty. They added lobster tails to their menu, but these were very tiny for $3.99 each and the four or five pieces of snow crab they just added were also very tiny, not really worth trying.

I asked for their new mushroom broth only to be told it is a dry mix, not a broth as it is in their photos. They were out of a few soups as well, including the collagen broth, so I opted for the miso broth which turned out to be a lot of water and very salty miso paste boiled together on the spot.

When I got the food, all the vegetables were way overcooked, the rice didn't have enough water so it was hard and inconsistent, and the pearls in their bubble tea had undercooked centers and the bubble tea itself had too much sugar.

Overall, I'm regretting I didn't go to any of the many other places I drove by. I don't think I'll be back again at Grandma Liu's.

Honestly goated spot for hot pot. Never busy and you can actually take your time and enjoy your food. Unlike big way, where it’s all packed and they basically time you to get the f out of there!
The people who work here are always so nice and friendly. You can tell they actually like working there

Food was alright. Same as other hotpot out there. The soup is also alright. It came with free lemonade and ice cream popsicle and the price is affordable! All in all. I would recommend this hot pot restaurant, if you want a fast hot pot style meal. Only downside with this place is that they don’t accept cash, only debit and credit which is odd!

Friendly staff and lots of seating. Ingredients are fresh and selection is comparable to Big Way. Only issue I had was with the soup quality. Had the Tom Yum and soup was far too sour
hope the kitchen can address that.

Never come to this restaurant ever again. The service sucks. I wait for 40min after ordering and no one came to serve. And I went to the cashier, the food has been finished, staying at the counter for a long time. All people were busy with the delivery and no one cares about dining in. The food was completely cold when I got it so I asked for reheat. Then it was another 20min waiting for reheat. All other dirty plates were left on the table. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

i came here with my boyfriend and I noticed there were no bowls so I asked the staff if there were more. The dishwasher then handed me a stack of bowls to put out?? Since when did staff make customers do their job. Plus my boyfriend had put several pieces of beef into his pot. After it was cooked and served, there was ONE slice of beef in his bowl. When we asked staff about it they just apologized and asked how many they wanted us to re-cook. Staff was also openly on their phone where customers can visibly see them. Definitely won’t be going back.

It’s a delicious malatang flavor that suits our tastes.
When I first came in, the smell of the restaurant was a bit weird (I don't know if it was the mala smell or the coriander smell), but I quickly got used to it and it's okay.
My elementary school daughter liked it so much that we came here twice during our short trip to Vancouver.
The staff were friendly and parking was even better because you could park in a free parking line on the street.
Best of all, they gave me free iced tea that tasted like Arizona green tea and nougat style chocolate ice cream♡

Considering the amount of food you put in to the bowl, Price is too expensive. Everytime I go there with my family the price turns out approx $30 per person.

Food is fine. Customer service non existent.

They switched to big way style hotpot, pick your own and weigh. Entered the restaurant there was no one there to greet you or even acknowledge you, no instructions as to what to do. Had to enter and ask someone. Two items abalone and lobster, there was a tag that showed an extra charge. Be aware they weigh those items and also add the extra charge on top. The free drink included was extremely lackluster. I got the malatang and flavour was good. Price wise was about the same as big way and selection was good, the whole experience wasn't great though due to lack of service.

I rarely give low reviews but I was really disappointed and surprised with what had happened on our first visit.

It’s been awhile since i wanted to give this restaurant a try. First is not a lot of selection but I don’t really mind that. When we paid - we weren’t really told that there were free drinks, but it’s fine. I guess a part of it was our fault.

Then it wasn’t really busy, and there were three of our. Our food came out prob close to 10 mins in between each other - but they told us they were making the soup, so okay, understandable.

And then, this was the shocking part for me. I didn’t know that they were closing - and the staff member just quickly grabbed my bowl, and put my free drink inside the bowl and just quickly said “we’re closing”. She said that as she was cleaning my tray without even asking me if I still want my drink or not. Normally when a restaurant is closing they would let the customers know or give a heads up before taking things away.

Atleast ask if I still wanted the drink before taking it away from me. They also didn’t even offer us our free ice cream (which wasn’t mentioned)

Overall it was just a rude experience. Wouldn’t go here again.
