I wrote a good review of this restaurant 2 years ago. Went back with my family today for dinner and had a less than memorable experience. Food came very quick but was bland and tasteless. No exaggeration but it had to rate as the most forgettable Cantonese meal I have ordered. The dishes come in large plates but overall an expensive night of very average food for the four of us. We all agreed it wasn’t great. There are some good reviews so maybe they just had a bad night.

Great place for dimsum brunch. We have been always able to get a seat quickly and the staff are very nice.

It’s kind of a weird concept. 1 kitchen 2 restaurants and you can’t order from the other menu.
The food isn’t exceptional but it’ll hit the spot if you want Chinese food.

I have been here, 3 times, 2 times for dinner and once for dim sum. All I can say is this place is underrated, The food is tasty without being overly salty, generous portions and the meat is good quality with none of the gristle and fattiness of other places. I have never been to the café side yet so I don’t have any review of that. They currently have a great promo if you spend $50 or more you get a free dish either a dim sum or chicken if you spend more. For now, this will be my go to place. Even when it’s a full house, it doesn’t feel that loud like some other restaurants. Parking may be an issue, especially on Sundays, but the staff told me that they sometimes park across the street at Icbc because it is not a working day.

Jan 2026 Update -
- we ordered their rice noodle with beef and the pork chop combo special. It was my first visit to the cafe side which was nice. Good food and service all around.

This location had 2 restaurants in one location – Happy Valley for Dim Sum and Hong Kong Café for noodles. We had an early lunch and it was already busy on a week day. We opted for dim sum and it wasn’t too bad. Our rating was based on a dim sum lunch:

(clean with lots of photos on the walls)
Portions were a decent size & most dishes were under $10 such as haw gao, steamed rice rolls, deep fried meat dumpling, deep fried bean curd sheet, sui mai dumplings). 8 dim sum dishes came to $83 with taxes.
(everything was good except skip the deep fried meat dumpling. Nothing wowing)
A bit of a challenge to find. Need to use GPS. Formerly at the old Swiss Chalet restaurant off Lougheed Hwy. Place isn’t a big as I thought.
Service: okay. Our server brought one of the wrong dishes & luckily we hadn’t eaten it. Next time we may try the place next door.

This location used to be Swiss Chalet. This is a Hong Kong style cafe. The theme in this restaurant is Hong Kong. There are pictures of Hong Kong on the walls and a red neon welcome sign. Hong Kong is known for its vibrant neon signs! Plenty of parking available. The service is mediocre even though there were 3-4 servers working the day I was there. It took them 5-10 minutes to refill my cup of tea.

UPDATE: October 21, 2023, today’s service was much better. Parking is still an issue because next door is another restaurant, Birdies

My friend is a regular patron here so I like to test the staff with unusual items to add to dishes or seasonal fish that they may have to order in. If they get enough notice, they always deliver on quality offerings. The staff are very friendly and professional and management take an interest in all customers, not just wait staff. The restaurant is large and can handle large groups as well as more intimate dining. When I special ordered rock cod it was kept alive in a tank to make sure it was what I wanted before it was prepared to my request. Delicious!

This is probably the best Cantonese style Chinese Restaurant in Vancouver. They are one of the very few restaurants that offer both dim sum and HK cafe dishes at the same place. Their chef previously worked for the award winning Kent's Restaurant on Kingsway. Currently, they are doing a lunch promotion. With a purchase of over $50, you can get a free dim sum.

Ordered lobster set dinner with 3 dishes for $148 + $10 noodle base. Lobster tastes great, very fresh. However the bitter melon with beef - the bittermelon was really hard - not thoroughly cooked through and a taste a bit too salty. The 3 dishes that comes with the combo does not have any choices of rice or noodle - you need to pay more to get more starch. The red bean dessert is also a bit overly sweet.

It's okay spot for HK Cantonese food. It still has the atmosphere of Swiss Chalet and the service is as expected from a HK cafe. The disappointment was the food as it was underwhelming. It's not terrible but not good either. The flavor and quality was okay, and just okay. Maybe it's the dishes I ordered, but they have a wide range to choose. Next time I'll try something different.

We visited the café this afternoon, Sep 1, 2025 (not for Dim Sum), ordering the “beef with flat noodles” and the “curry with fish balls”. The sliced beef was heavily marinated with baking soda, resulting in a texture that was lumpy and a taste that was bland—this method of preparation, in my experience, became outdated in Hong Kong some 30 to 40 years ago. The curry, meanwhile, arrived as a thick, yellowish, homogenous paste with starkly white fish balls simply dunked in; I have never come across this style of curry fish balls anywhere else, and it was altogether an unpleasant experience.
