The food was great. My favourite is the Shanghai dumpling, they use a thin wrapper which isn’t doughy. The fish in batter with seaweed was also one of my favourite! The duck on the other hand was very dry. You can never go wrong with the Shanghai fried noodle as well! Definitely would come again!

I think this restaurant may be the only one still has traditional Shanghai's dishes in Vancouver. We are happy that we still can enjoy the food in a well kept and clean big restaurant.
The food and the prices are good.
We come on a weekday for early dinner. The services are good too.
If you go there for lunch, don't forget try their Chinese doughnut. It's the best in Vancouver.

Service is terrible. But it’s ok.

Their manager told us”
The food isn’t good you don’t have to come again”

The photo on the order platform is totally different than what we received. The 27 dollar braised pork only contains a few pieces of pork and it is not tender at all.

The deep fried pork chop is not the same as the picture shown on the menu.

Disappointed as a long-time customer

Tantanmian is the soupy kind. Doesnt really have much meat in it. Wasn't too tasty.

The xiaolongbaos were good. Thin skin and lots of soup.

The preserved veggies and edamame fen pi was terrible. So little veggies and just a sprinkle of edamame. The noodle texture was good but it was so oily. Many shanghai places do this dish much better.

The lady with short hair (not sure if she’s manager) was giving us a mean look face all the time, refused to help us change to the other table that not next to the washroom, rushing us to leave (it was 8 and they close at 9), and when we said the pork ribs tasted not good, she said “don’t come next time if you don’t like the food” which is very rude. The pork ribs barely have any meat but all bones, the eel is $38 and was tiny amount. For sure we’ll never come again, and we won’t recommend our friends come here.

Food: no meat in ribs, just flour and bone.
Service: bad. Its own server (skinny lady) told us that don’t come back to this restaurant again.
Atmosphere: light is not enough

Tell me to charge 57. But the receipt after taking the card is 68. Why did the person who took the card give me a 20% tip when collecting the money? What service is this?

Food was great. Prob one of the best Shanghai restaurants I've been to for a long time.

Only thing that irks me is that their machines will actually accept Amex card when the staff said they "can't". When I was about to leave after paying my bill the staff called me back and refunded my payment on the spot to take a different card. Not a pleasant experience.

Edit: typo

The first time I visited Jin Jiang was back in 2014. It's somewhat hidden in the Best Western location on Kingsway and has a strange interior layout.

Back then, their xiao long baos were under $5. Now, their steamed Shanghai dumplings are almost double the price ($9.68). But I do admit that they are better than I remember them to be. Filling is fairly juicy. Note that I've had them a couple of times over the last few weeks and found the filling to be different on different occasions. Sometimes being more meaty than other times.

As a Shanghai restaurant, their dim sum offering is a bit limited compared to a Cantonese restaurant.

We ordered their turnip cakes ($9.68) which were round cakes filled with shredded radish (we kind of ordered this thinking it was like the Cantonese lo bak go but this is much drier in consistency like a pastry).

The fried shredded buns ($5.98) is a classic served with condensed milk for dipping. I know this more as silver thread buns (which can be either steamed or fried) due to the fluffy interior of the bun.

The pan fried pork buns are basically the like the steamed pork buns but wrapped up like a soft bao and then pan fried for a crispy bottom. The bottoms were super crispy and the filling was still soupy.

We also ordered the deep fried thick noodles with shredded pork ($18.98). Contrary to the English menu name, the noodles really aren't thick. I wish their menu names were more descriptive.

My friend and I standed in front of the restaurant door and waited for about 10min before we got served. There was nobody before us and the waitors passed by us at least 3 times and intentionally ignored us. After we sit down, I tried to be polite first when we were ready to order, but the waitors never looked at us. I have to yell to get their attention.

If their food is good, everything I just mentioned above is okay. However their food is very over-priced. Their pan fried pork bun is okay, but the fried sliced eels, which is supposed to be a signature Shanghai cuisine dish, does not worth the price at all. The eel is hard and I doubt they cooked it before it got fully defrost. Also how come I paid CAD26.98 before tax and they only serve such a small dish?? Check the pic below. Will never come again.
