I had the Bun Chay and it was delicious. Love the vegetarian options.

I came around lunchtime, and the restaurant was quite busy. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. However, it seemed a bit understaffed during peak hours, so my meal took over 25 minutes to arrive.

Food was excellent, but the servers were poor communicators and had an attitude problem. Probably won't be back and will let others know about the service

This was my third visit to the restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing this time. Although the servers weren’t busy, they never brought water or checked in to see if we needed anything. It felt like we were mostly ignored throughout the meal.

From the kitchen, there was a lot of loud chatter, which made the atmosphere a bit unpleasant. The pho was decent, but the portion of noodles was quite small. The grilled meat had a lot of black residue stuck to it, even though it wasn’t burnt—perhaps the grill hadn’t been cleaned properly.

On my second visit around 8 PM, the entrance was partially blocked as if the restaurant was about to close. From the kitchen, we could hear loud conversations, giving the impression that the staff had already wrapped up for the day. We were the only customers, yet the food came out quite slowly.

The server didn’t seem familiar with the menu and had to go back and forth to the kitchen multiple times to check our questions. They also said there was no rice available, so we had to order noodles only.

I’m still unsure if I’ll return, but I’d be willing to visit again if things improve.

Very disappointing experience with Pho 99 (SFU) in Burnaby.

I placed an online order directly through their website for delivery at around 6:30 PM. The total came to $72 for three people, including a tip. An hour later—when I was expecting the food to be delivered—I received a call from a restaurant employee who told me the order was ready, but the courier who came to pick it up suddenly ran off without taking it. The employee then told me I had to either figure out where the courier went or come pick up the order myself.

I explained that I ordered delivery for a reason and couldn’t come in person. The employee insisted that it wasn’t their responsibility since they apparently use an external delivery service, even though I ordered through their own website. I was then advised to arrange my own pickup using Uber. When I asked to cancel the order and get a refund, the employee refused and said the order was ready and I had to come get it. Then the call was ended abruptly.

I called again, and a different employee answered. When I asked for the manager, I was told there wasn’t one available. This second employee later said the courier had been found and that I could expect the delivery soon. When the courier finally arrived 15–20 minutes later, they seemed completely unaware of what had happened.

To make matters worse, the food was cold, the whole situation was stressful, and the evening was ruined. We didn’t enjoy it at all. For comparison, the same dishes from their New Westminster location were much tastier and better quality.

I won’t be ordering from the Burnaby location again.

Went for a visit to Burnaby Mountain and thought I make a trip back to my old stomping grounds. Lived near the SFU campus in 2018 for 1 year and I loved it. Oh my, how things have changed! So many new builds as well as new establishments. Back then there was no Vietnamese restaurants so I was stoked to see Pho 99. Vancouverites know that this is an OG franchise scattered throughout the city. Remember Pho Hoa? Apparently they all bear the same name but are individually owned. First impressions was “Damn, what huge space” Saw a lot of seated patrons during an awkward time which was a good sign. Students will forever be eating at odd times. I ordered the marinated bbq beef and pork rice dish. The plate was a little small and narrow but I guess it makes the portions seemed bigger? Regardless the lemongrass marinade was perfect. It makes sense because it will be hard to pull a fast one over smart and intelligent eaters. Students don’t mess around with their budgets. Loved the side of soup as well. Great flavours and super authentic. Satisfied!

I visited today and I usually go there to have the short ribs. But now the ribs are so tough to eat that I have to chew for a while. The service and servers are awesome but I wish the quality of the ribs go back to before. Probably they changed the supplier of the meat?
