I visited the Safeway on Hastings St today (2/22) to get balloons inflated for my son's birthday. When I arrived, there was no one at the counter. I asked the cashier to make an announcement for assistance, but no one came to help. If they don't have staff available to assist with balloon inflations, they shouldn't advertise that service. If you're planning a birthday and need supplies, I'd recommend looking elsewhere because Safeway isn't the best choice for this kind of service.

The self checkout is faulty. I bought less than $20 of groceries. The payment said tap, swipe or insert. I tapped like I usually do. It failed and said swipe or I insert. Luckily, I had a card with me. I swiped. It failed again and asked me to insert.
If it is broken, it should just go to insert. I tapped at every other retail and restaurant for days before and after. Either that or shut the broken machines down and hire more staff

Terrible experience January 12, 2026. I have been a customer of SAFEWAY at this location since April 1976, when we moved to the area. On January 1, 2026 I bought 2 liters of Lucerne 2% milk for $5.00 with the expiry date January16, 2026. We store the milk on the shelf in the back and we also have a manual thermometer inside so we can see the optimal temperature is maintained. On Sunday morning January 11, while pouring the milk to the coffee there was a funny texture and on January 12 in the morning the milk was sour, making the coffee undrinkable. So I went to SAFEWAY to return it. The available cashier was, I guess new and inexperienced, not knowing how to handle this situation, I gave her the milk and receipt and went to pick up a new milk. On My return I guess the manager on duty was standing there with the cashier. He was looking at the bill and told me that he will give me refund for one liter of milk since half of the milk was consumed which is an INSULT. Who is paying for my gas and time? I am not sure if it is still in use but at one time for a long time the policy was anything that goes bad before expiry date is fully refundable and you get a refund and new same item FREE. So I just kept my exchanged milk and walked away, NEVER TO RETURN TO SAFEWAY PERIOD.

It's a very busy place. Good selection nice deli. If you go with rush hour , be prepared to wait to pay. Lots of lunch choices , though , and the deli press sandwiches , soups and meals. I only gave it 3 stars.Because their prices are usually more expensive than other places.

Great location with plenty of parking, making it super convenient for quick grocery runs. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the produce section is usually fresh and well-stocked. I often find good deals, especially in the clearance section. Some real savings if you keep an eye out. Overall, a reliable place for groceries with a pleasant shopping experience.

I go to this location often. They have good breads and fruits.
Diabolical customer service. I and MANY people I know have seen the workers sitting around in the aisles, including one of the managers. It’s genuinely appalling. They looked at me and laughed as I walked by as well. How in god’s name do they still have a job. I wish I had names so they could be fired because this is genuinely embarrassing

This Safeway has a decent sized parking lot. The aisles are stocked fully as well as being clean. They have a nice cooked food section and you can create your own sandwich here. They seem to take part in festivities, as the store has nice decorations depending on the season.
