With an unassuming exterior, this place will pleasantly surprise you with an exceptional dining experience. The space is brilliantly optimized to make you feel welcomed.
Greeted by a warm, friendly hostess/wait staff, we were seated quickly for lunch.
For two people, we ordered: two unagi nigiri, the ethical salmon with tobiko roll, a spicy scallop solo, and two salmon nigiri.
First—the sushi rice. It was cooked perfectly, with beautiful, distinct pearls and delicate seasoning.
The unagi was lightly torched, giving it a gentle smoky flavour. I loved that it didn’t rely on a heavy sauce; the seasoning enhanced it beautifully. It might be the best unagi I’ve ever had!
The ethical salmon roll had thinly sliced scallions and just a touch of chili powder. The delicate flavours brought out the freshness of the salmon and tobiko. The scallops were incredibly fresh and seasoned just right—no overwhelming heat, no heavy sauce. Truly the best scallop sushi!
The salmon nigiri was brilliant. The fish was so fresh it practically melted in your mouth.
Do yourself a favour and don’t drown anything in soy sauce—the sushi is made so perfectly that you really don’t need any.
Everything was so good that my friend and I ended up ordering two more salmon nigiri, two more unagi nigiri, and another scallop roll.
I will definitely be back!!!

I recently visited Kilala, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.
The quality of their nigiri truly stands out — the balance between the rice and fish has a refined, authentic Japanese touch. The saba (mackerel) nigiri was especially impressive, knowing that it’s hand-prepared and cured in-house. The tamago was also outstanding: soft, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.
Their vegetable udon was another pleasant surprise. Instead of using a typical soy-based broth, it features a much cleaner and more delicate soup that I keep thinking about.
The Japanese-style futomaki was hearty and satisfying, with a generous filling — and the pickled gobo inside gave it a memorable kick that tied everything together.
Service was quick, friendly, and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. I’m excited to return, especially as they continue introducing new menu items.
Highly recommended!

Used to come here a lot since the early 2010s and was worried when the owners (Junichi-san) were going to retire. Went yesterday and met the new owner chef (Min) who was so lovely and friendly!! But most importantly, the sushi is just as delicious as before; I literally could not tell the difference.
New owner chef says he learned a lot from the old owners, who retired in Vancouver but would still come to help out. He’s still using the same fish suppliers and the same rice. It really shows!
Will continue to come!

I was a bit worried when ownership changed, but we tried it last night, and it was great! Still that same amazing Kilala sushi my family has come to love.

Went today for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! All the sushi was super fresh and you’re able to actually enjoy the flavours of the fish without drowning it in sauces. All the staff were super kind and welcoming and the chef even gave us seared tuna hand rolls to try! Overall 10/10 cute quaint restaurant and would definitely recommend trying it out!

The Saba Battera was absolutely delicious—fresh, clean, and not fishy at all. One of our friends usually can’t eat fish because of the smell, but even they said it wasn’t fishy whatsoever! The Unagi Battera was also excellent.
All the nigiri were beautifully presented and had the authentic taste of traditional Japanese sushi.
Our kids especially loved the Tamago nigiri!

It’s under new ownership, sushi is still tasty and fresh. My only nip pick is the cucumber it’s just a bit too big, feel like you’re chomping on a whole cucumber. If it can be julienne fine, I think that would compliments the filling much better.
