I love this place. The food is always amazing and the staff are super nice. My favourites: Chicken Katsu Don, Chicken Yaki Soba, Beef Udon, Prawn Tempura, Chicken Karaage, and the Chicken Katsu entree. The Yuzu mayo is fantastic as well. I'd give it more stars if I could.

I stopped in quickly for a snack before a class nearby.
The service was average, but the server did not understand me when I asked if they have grilled mackerel and thought I wanted a roll... By the way, they do not have grilled mackerel.
I got the negitoro roll (average) and sashimi salad (VERY sour and the dressing is strange - wasabi sauce with a second creamy sauce and a third vinegar sauce)
Overall, I think the restaurant is fine, but I do not recommend the sashimi salad... It was too sour for me to finish eating 😞

Ordered a take out. 1st time - last time. Chicken teriyaki don - picked up 2 mins away. Chicken was fridge.cold. has raw sprouts and lettuce. (Don usually cook everything.
BC ROLL.. tasted really had a a odd.fish smell. WAS SMALLER /than your standard.6.pc..chopped into 8.pcs (Why not.make it.10.pcs?)
1st trip there.. now my last... Not recommended.

Unfortunately, I think there are new owners. The lady I talked to over the phone was very rude and I noticed when I stepped into the store that there were different people working there. I've had good times and nice memories here in the past but I don't see myself wanting to go back under this management anymore and hearing the way that this lady treated me over the phone, i'm not intrigued to go back and support this business. There is lots of sushi restaurants around, I'll bring my business to them now. I miss the old owners.
I'm extremely disappointed. Had to wait over 10 min to order, as the girl staff were chatting up instead. Ordered oue food, got it fast. The tuna toro was extremely fishy taste (assuming old or low quality. The spixy gyoza had a delicious sauce, but was only half filled with pockets of air. All rice was extremely cheap quality and lower grade, barely seasoned. Lots of yam in the yam roll but the rice made it worse. Lastly, the hastings roll had a good flavour profile, but the fish was once again extremely fishy and low quality. Also took 10-15 just to make eye contact for the bill, but ended up having to go up for the bill. Wasn't even packed, but they couldn't even refill tea. Not worth the price they charge...

Hidden gem in Burnaby North, best Japanese/Korean venue on Hastings in Burnaby.
Definitely the best tempuras in Lower Mainland that I've ever eaten; light and crispy thin batter, not greasy at all. Restaurant overall cleanliness well maintained, convenient parking, exceptionally pleasant and attentive staff.
Highly recommended for anyone wishing a happy meal with friends or families for reasonable pricing for similar venues in area.

I ordered a BC roll. The fish skin inside had no fish scales, and it was very fishy. This is the most disgusting BC roll I have ever eaten.

I always forget about this place. I hadn't been back to Sushi Giwa in a while but I was pleasantly surprised how much better it had gotten. Service was excellent, catered to our many demands and the food was very good and flavourful. The beef in the yakiudon was delish! Prices were reasonable. We will definitely be back soon!
