I went for a pleasant family meal over the weekend. Although there was a wait, the staff kindly guided us to a table, which was nice. (Among the various locations, I prefer this Market Crossing branch. My close friend lives nearby, so I come here more often than the one near my neighbourhood.)
Our server was an Asian guy with short hair. He had no smile, and his expression was completely flat. Honestly, I was hoping for one of the friendly female servers instead. The real issue started when he brought out our food, seemingly at his discretion. Since English is not my first language, I clearly state the menu item's name. I even point to the name and picture on the menu (I love that particular dish). But something seemed off when the usual salad that comes with the dish didn’t arrive. I thought, maybe this branch is different, so I let it go.
My family and I ordered beers, and I specifically asked for the same size as mine several times. But he served a larger, more expensive size. Throughout the meal, there was no check-in or care from him. When it came time to pay, I asked why the menu items were different here, and he claimed I had ordered a different salad. I was shocked. I didn’t say anything other than the menu item’s name and pointed directly to it! How could he just change the dish without checking with me, and then blame me for it?
A server should always double-check orders (especially if they aren’t confident), but he didn’t. There wasn’t even an apology. Although I left the standard tip, our experience was completely ruined. I still don’t understand his attitude—he acted like he didn’t want to serve or even work there. The restaurant needs to train its staff better, and the male server needs to understand his job.
His uncomfortable expression, failure to get the order right, and lack of apology were truly the worst.
For our recent staff meeting, we ordered our meals from the Market Crossing location. Mark took our order when I called in. He was very patient. We had a lot meals and he took the time to ensure everything was correct. Our order was ready for the exact time we requested and every meal was correct.
