Big Way Hot Pot (Coquitlam)

We had an fantastic dining experience at Big Way Hotpot in Coquitlam! This place is truly a must visit, especially if you're a fan of hotpot. Their house specials are incredible — from the flavorful spicy Sichuan hotpot to the milder, comforting herbal broth, there's something for everyone. They’re famous for their fresh seafood hotpot and their signature house-made dipping sauces that add an extra layer of flavor.

Big Way Hotpot operates with a unique self-serve style where you choose your broth, select your fresh ingredients from a generous selection of meats, vegetables, noodles and seafood, and then cook everything before they serve you right at your table. It’s a fun and interactive way to enjoy your meal, perfect for groups or family outings. Be mindful about the weight of your food because you might be surprised when you later are billed at the counter.

A special shoutout to Angie, who provided us with exceptional service. She was so friendly and attentive, serving us ice cream with a big smile and even giving us an extra cone upon request — such a thoughtful touch! Her warm hospitality really made our experience memorable.

This spot has become a trendy destination in Coquitlam because of its lively atmosphere, high-quality ingredients, and innovative dining concept. Went during soft opening and there was no wait at 9:00 pm. Staff was friendly and food came out pretty quick. One complaint tho was it was so moist in the dining area.

I made a reservation for three people, but because my dad arrived a bit late, the young Asian-looking manager insisted—rather impatiently—that my mom and I sit at a two-person table instead. When I asked, “What about when my dad arrives?” he said my dad would have to sit at a separate table.

That already felt unreasonable, but when my dad did arrive and I asked again, the manager reluctantly moved us back to our original three-person table. It was frustrating and made us feel like we were being a burden for simply arriving in stages — even though the reservation was clearly for three people.

I understand they’re busy and their business is doing well, but this kind of attitude lacks basic hospitality. There’s a respectful way to handle things, even under pressure.

As for the food — the meat quality was below average, especially the lamb, which was extremely gamey and tough. The broth tasted artificial, like it was full of additives and flavor enhancers rather than real ingredients.

We paid nearly $90 including tax and a 15% tip, which honestly didn’t feel worth it considering both the service and food quality. The price point suggests a premium experience — but what we got was far from it.

Lines can vary but I've accepted that roughly 30 people in line amounts to an hour of waiting. I suggest joining the waitlist online and getting there close to seating.
Price varies based on what you get.
Normally no issues but had a recent experience with one of their new seasonable bases that had no flavour. Couldn't request additional of that base but they provided the normal soup base instead, not the end of the world but odd

Brycen was the best person we could have asked for, we came in to this restaurant for the first time, we were confused and lost but Brycen came and taught us the bigway way. Thank you for the advice Brycen!
Also he gave us free ice cream at the end we felt like kings!
