Very good katsu yet not quite worth 5 stars but well over 4. Not bad for a casual date spot. Parking could be confusing.

It’s famous for deep fried kasu but the curry sauce turns out to be unexpectedly good, becoming our favourite dipping sauce! Ordered 3 sets of kasu for sharing and we all left with a full stomach. This is a small shop, but it’s very stylish and clean.

took forever to get inside made us wait 40+ mins u should make a reservation instead
got the zenbu katsu! it was very crispy on the outside, but the sauces were a bit too salty.
Went for the lunch specials today. First visit. Really satisfying. One of my fave meals in Japan was Tonkatsu Marushichi Ginza. Nice to have a place with delicious pork on a bed of egg and rice. Pickles were great as was the cabbage salad and miso soup. Service was warm and friendly.

We love dining at Saku and have always appreciated the quality of their food. However, during our recent visit to this particular branch, we noticed that the portion sizes were significantly smaller compared to our previous experiences—especially with the pickles. On our first visit, the additional pickles were generously served, but on our second visit, we were surprised to receive barely half a saucer.
When we asked about it, the server mentioned that while the price hadn’t changed, the portion size had. It would have been helpful to be informed of this change when we placed our order, so we could adjust our expectations accordingly.
Earlier this week, we visited the Robson branch—our usual go-to location—and the portions there were much more generous, as expected. Since Saku is a chain, we feel that consistency in portion sizes across branches is important and should be addressed.
That said, the staff handled the situation very professionally and didn’t charge us for the additional pickles as a courtesy, which we appreciated. Great customer service, but we do hope to see more consistency in the food portions moving forward.

my FAV cutlet place. everything is absolutely delicious. i got the hire katsu set and wow the pork is perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside. the sides including cabbage, rice and soup are all refillable which is fantastic. im a big fan of the soup, it’s really tasty. the staff are nice and always check in to see if you need any more sides. the restaurant has a nice aesthetic but is quite small so do be prepared that there may be a wait. i will be back to try other sets!

Late weekday lunch was very quiet. I ate at the Robson St location a year ago and found the food here not to be quite as good, though still very good. Got the zenbu katsu both times, which provides more than enough for two. As usual, the sides and condiments stole the show - the sesame dressing on the table is addictive, the lemon salt is delightful. Service was wonderful.
Update: A couple years later and every bit of my original review still stands. We've been regularly since our first time and always leave replete and satisfied. One of these days I'll get something other than the Zenbu Katsu!

Saku is one of my favorite places to satisfy my donkatsu cravings. The staff are incredibly friendly, which always adds to the experience. The deep-fried pork cutlet is typically crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, although during my last visit, I noticed that the bottom of the cutlet was a bit soggy. This might be due to the pork not being properly defrosted and brought to room temperature before frying, which can cause moisture to leak out. It would be great to see them ensure this step is consistently followed, as I've usually enjoyed their perfectly crispy pork cutlet.
I also appreciate the offering of unlimited miso soup and salad—such a nice perk! However, I would love to see a few more salad dressing options added to enhance the experience further. Overall, Saku remains a top choice for me, and I'm looking forward to my next visit!
