The store isn't very big, but the overall decor feels comfortable. Their deep fried dishes are done quite well—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and not greasy. The other side dishes are also fine. The only slight disappointment is their sauce; in my opinion, it’s a bit too mild, which is a pity given the high quality of their fried items. Overall, it's a pretty good restaurant and worth recommending.

Food quality is very different each time I go. Sometimes its great but sometimes its not even fully cooked. Manager/owner need to do something to ensure consistency.

Kid-friendliness: Have kids menu and colouring sheet.

Had their special Kuro buta.
It was too oily as its bottom was still wet by oil even it's laid on a wire rack!! The rice, which I love as I am Japanese, it was bad. Hard, smelled old. No worth $32 before tip plus $5 for parking!!

Do not be fooled by the upscaled decor or presentation.

Tried the cheese katsu, which is one of their "signature specials". $27 plus tax and tip for 6 glorified cheese sticks and rice.

In hindsight I should have ordered the regular katsu, as there would be more meat, but even the portion for those looked small.

The taste of everything was fine, but the steep prices for the food you get in return is unjustified.

Would not recommend or return.

I'm someone who loves both Korean-style Dongasu and Japanese-style tonkatsu, and this dish is my soul food.

However, I was deeply disappointed by this franchise, which is said to have the best tonkatsu in Vancouver.

A good tonkatsu should taste heavenly even when dipped in just a bit of salt.
But their *Dokujyo rosu katsu*, which is supposed to be a premium menu item, was overly greasy, and the batter crumbled with just a touch of my chopsticks.
Despite being one of the first tables, there was a smell of oil.

Moreover, about a quarter of the *rosu katsu* was fat.
I've never seen this much fat in a pork loin cutlet before.

Both weren’t completely terrible, but for a dish that costs around $30, I would honestly recommend Costco’s frozen stuff instead.

It's a real shame because this place used to be known for its amazing food, but it seems they've completely lost their original touch.

P.s. but the service itself was very nice

Great katsu and has a fantastic plating and presentation. I prefer this place over katsuya in terms of taste and vibe. However I will say saku is considerably more expensive so take that into account. The only thing missing here is draft japanese beer!

So good, one of my favourite katsu places in the city. I’ve been to this place so many times and in many of their locations across the GVA area. I get the premium pork katsu combo most of the time and it’s delicious. Their fried fish one is also really good and I recommend. They also offer free refills on salads, rice and soup which is amazing and fills me up every time. The house made sesame dressing for the salad is the best. Their meat also tastes super fresh and the interior of the restaurants are always clean!

Always a good time at this Saku location. Never left without a full tummy and satisfaction. Have tried most items on the menu and always go back for the Chicken katsu for taste, portion, and value. Their unlimited miso soup, salad, and rice is nice.
