This used to be our go to place for Sushi but today we had Spicy Sashimi and it had an after taste. Tasted old and like a fridge. We won't be going back, definitely a let down.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 27/2026: I was able to do takeout tonight at this very busy location and really glad we did. I tried the new location over in Burquitlam few weeks ago but now I know I will always come back to this location on North Road because the portions are very generous in comparison and it feels like I had a complete meal. I uploaded the most recent picture of today’s takeout and in all honesty it feels like it’s almost doubled the size as the Burquitlam location.
Update :. Thanks to Julia and the owner....wow. Words can't express how I felt so blessed by this location. They really go above and beyond to ensure top notch quality and service!!! The only issue I have is I live kind of far away. I wish I lived closer lol.
Sushi California takeout and as always..very good and consistent w all their locations. One of my favourite is the Korean chirasi don...definitely give it a try especially if like bimbimbop.

I would like to personally thank whoever came up with the Rollmaster Combo. I will never have to order any other sushi in my life. This combo has the perfect balance of prawn tempura, avocado, and raw fish, and crunchy textures. Thank you Sushi California. You have changed my life

This place has gone complete down hill. They cannot manage the operation anymore. You dine in and your food take 45mins bc they prioritize all the take out. So we switch to take out next time we came. We were told 35mins, it ended taking a full hour. If you aren't hungry and have lots of time to wait around, this place still might work for you. Otherwise if your value your time, give this place a pass.

For 2 people, the bill went out for $25 per person. We had the French Kiss Roll, Angry Roll, Spicy Agadeshi Tofu, Chicken Kaarage and half order of Spicy Tuna Sashimi. The staff and service were good!

Extremely Disappointing Services
My recent visit was a series of frustrations from start to finish.
When we arrived, the staff refused to seat us because our entire party wasn't there yet. We explained that our last friend was literally in the parking lot parking the car, but they still forced us to wait outside until every single person was standing at the door.
Once we were finally seated, we couldn't even enjoy our meal or conversation. The servers kept coming over every few minutes to ask if we wanted more water. It wasn't helpful; it was clearly a tactic to pressure us to finish quickly and leave.
Shortly after we started eating, the staff abruptly told us they were closing and we had to leave immediately. Their attitude was cold and extremely unfriendly. It felt like they only cared about going home, not about the customers who were paying for a meal.
The lack of hospitality and the hostile attitude of the staff ruined our evening. I will never return to this establishment, and I will be telling all my friends and family to stay away. There are plenty of other Japanese restaurants with much better service than this one.
DON'T COME. Sushi Cali is such TRASH. Instead of Uber eats, we wanted to support local businesses. We ordered online using their preferred website at 5:30pm, and the pickup time is 6:28pm. We went at 6:35pm, to give them extra time. They told us to wait 10m, so we waited. Then we came back, and we were told the same thing. This repeated 3 times. We had to park at McDonald's (which is illegal) just because sushi Cali lied on the pickup time, and it was raining. By the time we got out dinner it was 7:20pm. Please pick any sushi restaurant. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's good.

First time at the restaurant and would not be back! Food portion is generous. Taste is decent. Nothing special. Though the service is crap. Waited over 40 mins for our food while 4-5 table arrives after us all got their food served! They server even gave us lame excuses that their restaurant protocols is to have all the food for the same table all at once. Since we have hot food we need to wait. Though tables after us got both hot food and cold dishes served already! She even came back to our table trying to do small talks and explaining that our hot food has to wait for our sashimi is ready to come out together! What kind of weird logic is that. If you mess up, just fix it!
