it was by far the best shnitzel I have ever had. the pineapple sweet and sour was delicious. I came all the way from Langley BC and it was well worth it.I highly recommend that you try it. great food and great people. what more could you ask for.

Tried Bisque for the first time tonight. Absolutely delicious schnitzel with delicious sides. Delivered piping hot. The spaetzel was also incredible.

The service was decent, food was great - not such high marks for ambiance as the decor is quite dated, but if you are there for the food rather than decor, life is good!

I had dinner at The Bisque for the first time. I was visiting Courtenay for a couple of nights. The meal at the Bisque was average, but the restaurant was tired. I felt it was stuck in the 1990s. There was no energy there whatsoever. The restaurant has seen better days. I found the entire dining scene in Courtenay uninspiring…

When my husband called for reservations they said that they were very busy but could fit us in if we came right away. As we entered the restaurant there was a very strong cooking smell of oil and fish. It was heavy and not a pleasant greeting. The server was very friendly and pleasant throughout the evening. They did get very busy during the evening and it seemed to be mostly locals. We had a bottle of wine with dinner. My husband had the soup of the day made with chanterelle mushrooms. It was served with a great tasting piece of garlic bread. The soup itself had pieces of meat in it that my husband felt detracted from the soup. He would rather have just had the mushrooms in the soup. For entrees I had the strip loin steak special with hunter sauce. It was delicious and cooked just as requested. My husband had the barbecue ribs and they were very tender and flavourful. The room is very nice, the service was terrific and the food was very good. It is good value for the money. If they could only do something about the ventilation to manage the cooking smells from the kitchen it would really add to the enjoyment of the dining experience.

Some of the restaurants are opening up again after meeting the new health guidelines regarding Covid-19. The Bisque has fewer tables and a much smaller menu. I found the items offered were okay but I must admit the old menu was much better. The staff were very welcoming and pleased to serve us. The bisque soup was good and the spinach salad was satisfying. There were 5 of us and for the mains, two had halibut and chips, two had a schnitzel and one had a crepe. All were tasty and enjoyed. Desert was creme caramel, chocolate mousse and cheese cake. A nice night out but we all missed the old menu!

This was our first time for dinner here. Have had lunches before but oh my goodness the dinner was exceptional. It was fast, hot and 5 stars. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!

Went for lunch - had a curried chicken soup, which had one small piece of chicken and no curry flavour. Beef stroganoff crepe's in which the beef was super chewy, sauce had good flavour and crepes were nice. Dessert was cheesecake and it was nothing special, tasted like a grocery store preparation. Decor is beyond tired, chairs are old and uncomfortable. Service was pleasant and attentive, but not enough to save this average lunch experience. Would not return,

Twice now I have eaten there, in the summer for lunch, and yesterday for dinner. Last summer I couldn’t believe how much chlorine was in the drinking water, so I asked about it. They use tap water. Not filtered. Then I asked for a pop, and I got a glass of pop with ice cubes. Yuck! Ice cubes were made from their tap water too. I talked with the owner and suggested they use an under the sink filtering system, or even a Brita because the city water is heavily chlorinated. I have lived here for years, in fact, my husband and I have been going to this same restaurant for over forty years before it was sold and became the Bistro. No other restaurant in Courtenay has this problem. Why just theirs? Last night I had dinner there (6 months later), and same thing. Water has a putrid smell of chlorine. And this time it wasn’t just me who noticed it, my husband and six other people at our table did. So I mentioned to the server, they need a filter of some kind for the drinking water. Two of the guests at our table who didn’t like the smell of the table water asked for drinks. Both drinks came with ice, and since their ice cubes are made with tap water, they had to quickly scoop out the ice because of the smell and taste of chlorine was contaminating their drinks. So hopefully this restaurant will listen to some common sense with this review. Get yourself an inexpensive filter for under your taps if you want to see your restaurant do well in a community with lots of restaurants to choose from. Such a shame, too, because the food was very good.

Bisque has moved to a new location on the corner of 6th and Cliffe in Courtenay. We were there a couple of days ago for lunch. They have a very limited lunch menu and we were quite disappointed in the offerings. Not one sandwich on the menu. Many people in the downtown area want a quick lunch at a reasonable price. So I would have to say that they need a big overhaul on their lunch menu before we go back. We would love to see this restaurant make a go of it. It used to be one of our "favourite " lunch restaurants.

I found this restaurant way overrated by Tripadvisor customers. It's a nice place, the food is good, and everyone is very friendly (it's Vancouver Island, everyone is friendly!). But the food is just average. Not awful, but also not noteworthy in any way.

This is my favourite restaurant. 12 of us went for my Birthday dinner. I had the Oscar schnitzel, my favorite dish and it was perfect. Roasted new potatoes with 5 other veg on the plate, so yummy. The asparagus with lots of crab meat and then topped with the house made hollandaise sauce on top of 2 breaded pork cutlets...yummy. The service was excellent. Thank you for providing great food, excellent service in a great place.
