I’ll start with the bad because I think management needs to see this. I love the events guys, but the sound is almost always too loud. For example, open mic night is cool (would be near to have new people playing different songs more often though, lot of regular rotations playing the same songs week after week for months or even years now), but so is talking to my friends. It just gets too loud. Tonight, I retreated to the non-live music portion of the bar to get away from it. I was having a nice quiet time with some background music when suddenly, the sound guy from the other side of the bar comes in, and cranks the music. Why?! Thankfully the bartender turned it back down.
Anyway, the beer is excellent and the food is incredible (especially the Mexican options—the kitchen knows what’s up).
But guys, reign soundguy in. Please.

The Gladstone's lack of community spirit is deeply disappointing. Despite owning a massive, frequently empty parking lot, the management refuses to allow even minimal use for the neighboring non-profit charity.
This isn't just about convenience; it’s about accessibility. Many individuals visiting the charity for mental health support and sound healing have mobility issues, and the Gladstone's refusal to share a few spots makes it nearly impossible for disabled patrons to access the care they need.
It’s sad to see a local business show such zero-sum hostility toward a neighbour doing good for the community. I cannot in good conscience support a business that actively makes life harder for the vulnerable (including myself). I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and encouraging others to do the same.

Great beer, amazing food and a cool location is all you need to create the perfect brew pub experience.
We had a couple different beers here, the cerveza Mexican style was absolutely perfect on a hot day and great way to cool off on the patio.
The food was delicious and I would even say worth the trip from Victoria.
The location is in the heart of downtown Courtney and it's right on the middle of a busy location which provides a great space to site and people watch. The courtyard and patio add to the atmosphere. What a great place! Can't wait to go back )

Gladstone is the perfect place to enjoy a great beer with family and friends. They have an amazing collection of toys to keep the little ones entertained, along with a solid selection of beer and tasty food for the grown-ups. It’s a place that truly makes the whole family happy. Highly recommended!

Stopped in for breakfast around 8am. It wasn't busy at all and enjoyed the atmosphere. Food is yummy as well. Avocado toast was well priced. Giving 4 star as there were a couple of things that could be improved. Would love to see more options to convert some of the meat dishes to veg - and to have a menu that's easily accessible online. We couldn't find it anywhere so we had to go in to figure out what was being served. Posting it here for those interested.

The beer is great, but recently I’ve been loving their margaritas! Personal favourite is the fish burrito, but the burgers are also great. You really can’t go wrong with the drink or food menu. 👌
It’s an inclusive, welcoming, family friendly environment that you truly don’t find many other places. My friends and I have small children and we always feel we are welcome. My daughter loves dancing so we try to hit up the live music. 🤘
They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Great location - right downtown Courtenay!
