Attended as a group of 4.
One meal (the duo of beef) was superb, and the dessert was great too. The restaurant source the produce as locally as possible which is brilliant.
From there it goes downhill. One meal (the pork belly) was particularly disappointing; overcooked and the smallest slice of meat. The dish was passed around the table and no one liked enough to have more. Paying over $40 we expected much more.
The service was okay - we were well attended, though the server's attitude was interesting, wanting to be your new friend though an undertone of attitude.
Paying approximately $80 per person (+tax) for one main, one drink and a shared dessert, we left underwhelmed, feeling it was overpriced.
Though we are locals, we won't be going back.

It has been a while since i ate at Locals, but managed to get in a couple weeks back (February 12th). Food was fantastic, staff was friendly, and atmosphere was as a remembered it to be. Really enjoyed the meal, and it was great to be squeezed in with a last minute reservation.

Tasty but very small portions and over-priced. Not like it used to be

We dine out a lot and this is one of a handful of restaurants that we visit every 3-4 months. We have never had a bad experience.

I used to really enjoy dining at Locals, which is why this review is so disappointing to write — but the quality of the food has dropped dramatically, and the prices no longer reflect what is being served.
The scallop dish in particular was a shock. What used to be fresh, large bay scallops is now clearly previously frozen scallops that were overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Instead of being the star of a thoughtfully composed plate, they were basically sad little “morsels” sitting on a clunky slab of pork belly. Just visually unappetizing and honestly a turn-off.
The dish was paired with puy lentils and green beans, but the flavour profile was bland and uninspired — a far cry from what this plate used to be. It felt like a cheap imitation of something that once had care and intention behind it.
I also tried the duo of meat, and it was genuinely reminiscent of a meal served in my granny’s nursing home. That’s not exaggeration — it had that dull, overcooked, institutional feel, with nothing elevated or memorable about it.
This was, without question, one of the worst meals I’ve eaten in a long time. There was nothing redeeming about it. They even messed up the ceasar salad. It’s frustrating because Locals used to be somewhere I’d recommend without hesitation, but at this point I can’t justify returning or encouraging anyone else to spend their money here unless the kitchen makes serious changes.

We had a very underwhelming experience. The service was okay. Our lamb was bland and our risotto tasted like it was bland rice.our food also took 2 hours to get.very disappointing for the price
On what was a long anticipated dinner out, we were sadly disappointed. Waited at the door to be acknowledged for our reservation. Someone flung a comment over their shoulder as they rushed past that “she” would be right with us. Waited….finally led to a table. Waited at least 15 minutes before a drink order was taken and then at least 20 before the drinks showed up. Food ordered and then a looooong wait for that. Severe nut gluten allergies were made clear before food was ordered. Meal came. Caesar salad I have frankly had better elsewhere, lamb shank was good but the steak and prawns were overcooked. Oversalted, rubbery prawns, steak ordered medium rare was medium to medium well and had obviously sat under the heat lamp for too long. Dessert was brought promptly after listing everything that had gluten and nuts in it as options. When it came, it had both gluten and nuts in the biscuits.
Sorry Locals. You really dropped the ball tonight. Extremely disappointing.

The lack of professionalism and treatment towards paying customers from the owner is absolutely disgusting. Terrible service, over rated food. The staff are probably miserable working for such an immature owner who can’t handle his emotions. It’s too bad because this place actually has potential.
Never disappointed eating here, good service and good food

New menu - still with great food! Service - was slow today (both to get our meals and the final bill) and restaurant was not busy.

Great atmosphere and a minute walk to the Old House Hotel where we were staying. Highly recommended.

Thank you to Locals for hosting our wedding reception dinner! The service at dinner was truly incredible. Very disappointed in the quality of the meal tonight. Five people different dishes. No one was impressed. We have been going for years. Never had a bad meal until tonight. Limited menus - lack of flavor and my dish was cold. Not sure where the original menus went. Will not be going back. Discouraging. Locals what have you dine. Such limited choices. More appetizers less main meals. At this time would not reccomend. Save you money. 😱🤑thumbs down
