Every time I visit family in Courtenay, we make sure to visit Plates. The last time was a sad affair after a death in the family, and some good food was needed. The compassion and kindness shown by staff was also needed and we are grateful for the that. Highly recommend and will continue going back. Thank you (Jayda!) <3

Food is always good quality, Annette provides superb service and has managed to remember my specific regular order very well, super impressed by the lovely atmosphere, good food, solid portions, and lovely treatment by the servers. Will be back in the near future!

Haven’t been to plates in a while so thought I’d have a quick breakfast. What a great restaurant, my server was 150% on it, attentive, professional. Hostess was on it as well, great team there and great food.
5 out of 5, I was need to start coming here more often.

Plates delivers exactly what it promises; diner food served in an authentic diner setting. My omlette was cooked well (not overcooked and brown) and had plenty of goat cheese. The food came quickly and was served hot. Portions are what you'd expect and prices were average. One of the dining patrons at our table mentioned the guacamole tasted off and I agreed. We let the server know and she took it away, but came back and said she didn't know what was wrong and the chef said the guacamole in the kitchen was fine. She charged us for it anyway, which I thought was cheeky, but I didn't protest. I'd go back, but my dining companion said he wouldn't.
Food was great. Our Server was great. Atmosphere was good.....but, and this is the big one that everyone that showed up after us commented on as well. When we arrived there was a group of 5 in front of us so we were 2nd in line to be seated. The crowd waiting to be seated grew to 23, crammed in the tiny waiting area for almost 1/2 hour. We counted 13 tables empty while the crowd kept growing. They finally sat everyone once they eventually got a table to seat the group of 5. The greeter needs to learn how to seat people better. I'd rather sit with a coffee than wait standing for my food.

I accidentally deleted our food pics! ARGH. Well we both had a waffle; mine with Blueberry/whip cream *yes real, and Mom with Strawberry.
Very light and sweet waffle first amd foremost. Not a dense heavy one but almost like a light cake? It was so soft inside and gorgeously browned and crisp outside.
Service is crazy good. Atmosphere top notch with tons to look at if you like antique and collectible car and toy stuff. Very cool.
I don't live on the island anymore but always a favorite spot.

We stayed next door at the Coast Hotel, so we had to try this gem! And we're so glad we did. The food was amazing, with generous portions and reasonable prices. The cozy vibe and fun decor made for a wonderful atmosphere. But what really made our experience stand out was our server, JC - they were awesome! Overall, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it!

My fiance and myself came for a late lunch. I ordered the Ultimate Loaded Burger with fries and gravy. My lady ordered the MBC burger with Caesar salad. Food was fast, presentation was amazing. And it was the best burgers either of us have had in a long time. Plates is genuinely a hidden Gem. We will be making this our go to whenever we visit Courtenay!!! Huge thanks to the amazing cooks who prepared this absolutely delicious visit!

If you want an amazing tasting, excellent priced breakfast this is the place to go! From the homemade jam, to the cubed hasbrowns, all the way to the avocado toast, there's something for everyone and it always comes out good
