No hyperbole, this is the absolute best coffee shop I've been to, and I've been to a lot. Fantastic and fresh baked goods, unique sandwiches, and phenomenal coffee.

Hank's Bakery, just off the busy highway on Duncan’s outskirts, is a local favorite that’s well worth the extra drive. This bakery-café hybrid focuses on fresh-made food and seasonal specials, drawing in a steady stream of customers who don’t mind the bustling atmosphere for a taste of Hank’s quality.

The bakery is often packed, and space inside is tight. Seating is limited, with a few small tables and a bar area that suits solo diners or those just grabbing a quick bite. It’s more of a grab-and-go spot than a sit-and-stay café, but the food keeps people coming back.

Hank's stands out for its focus on fresh ingredients, which sets it apart from typical cafés that prioritize drinks. Their menu is always changing, with seasonal specials adding variety and keeping things exciting. Whether it’s fall-inspired pastries or summer-fresh salads, Hank’s makes the most of each season’s flavors.

Overall, I’d rate Hank’s a 7.2/10. The quality of the food and seasonal offerings are huge pluses, though the busy, cramped space makes it a better fit for quick stops than extended visits. If you're in the area, it’s a must-try for fresh, flavorful fare!

Tried it out for the first time on our way through Duncan today. Got a mocha, croissant, and breakfast sandwich. Everything was A+. We will be back!

Our favourite spot for a breakfast of coffee and pastries on the Island! Fantastic desserts of flaky French style tarts, danishes, crostadas, and other forms featuring seasonal and local fruits and vegetables. A great variety of things to take home including fresh breads and the locally famous Pickles Pantry fridge provisions like veggie patés. And don't miss the awesome sandwiches. It's become quite popular, so it pays to arrive a bit early. It's the highlight of our weekly trip to Duncan.

Parking: Can fill up at busy times, but since most customers grab and go spots open up quickly. Please respect parking reserved for neighbouring businesses.

Fantastic! We are so lucky to have such a bakery in town. It is super busy, they run out of selections (that means it is always fresh - and you have to go early if you have a favourite). Mine is the Seeded Sandwich loaf, I run home and make toast right away. We just came back from Paris and this rivals any bakery there. They are super busy and they deserve it!

What a welcome addition to the Cowichan Valley’s bakery and coffee scene! Everything we’ve tried has been delicious, particularly the brownies, muffins and breakfast sandwiches. Also love that they support other local producers by selling their goods in their shop. Only negative thing (I’m sure they hear it a lot) is lack of seating, it’d be great to be able to enjoy their yummy treats in store. But that’s all! Great place.

How I have only known about this place for approx 2 months is a mystery to me, but it's simply amazing. Like the treat/snack factor us just WOW. Whether you're a local or you're just passing through going up or down island, it's a must; otherwise, you're just missing out on a life experience. We stayed in the Super 8 across the street, and just discovered this place because we were hungry. So happy we went here! The croissants were amazing and the scone was the best I ever had (and that’s saying something). The girl behind the counter was super friendly as well.
Highly recommend if you manage to find yourself in Duncan!
