However, my recent experience at the Fort Nelson location truly exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by exceptionally friendly staff who made me feel genuinely welcome. Impressive burgers and breakfast options I believe I ordered the all Canadian breakfast special at this one. Stopped at a few A&W while traveling through Canada to Alaska and this quickly became my go-to franchise they were all great places. The service and food was always good. Would recommend.

When I looked it up, it says they are open until 10 and the dining area is open till 9. Two others and I got there at 8 and they first said we can't eat inside but eventually budged after we asked continuously. Then when ordering they said they already cleaned the grill so many of the food items couldn't be made. I am a vegetarian and wanted an impossible burger but they said they weren't going to make it so I had to get the only other option which was the masala burger thing and it was ok but not what I really wanted. My boyfriend got one of their burgers and said they can heat up the 3oz burgers but won't do the 5oz patties because again they don't want to have to clean the grill again. I understand cleaning a little early but 2 hours early is crazy.

A & W shake made with ice, some foreign looking cream a rootbeer flavoring. Definitely not made with softserved ice cream. This place has a machine that does this work and spills half the ice made shake in the machine. Dine-in, received a plastic cup with paper straw. All the A & W pictures and even big glass mugs at counter but everyone receives plastic cups. I was even informed they only serve small and regular sizes. Some serious false advertising and lawsuit waiting to happen! Empty and Dirty table Monday, no one inside and like 80 degrees (hotter inside than outside).

Traveling from Indiana to Alaska my husband and I stopped to eat in Ft Nelson. The food, and service, and atmosphere were wonderful. The manager and staff went above and beyond to help us with the road closures due to the wild fires in Canada. We didn't have cell service and they looked up the info for us, and even helped us get cell service for our Canadian travels. If we ever get back up there we would definitely go back there again. We also just loved how clean everything was, and how friendly everyone was. Kudos to Ft Nelson A&W!!!!

After ordering we were then asked to only sit at a table on the right side as the left side with booths was already being cleaned and would be closed. It was only 5:30 pm and I prefer a booth when available as opposed to a wooden chair but okay we can do that. We were the only people dining in for the duration of our meal but their door hours say they're open until 9 pm. We chose a table on the right side as instructed and halfway through our meal they decided to come and change a mostly empty garbage right beside us while we were eating. When we chose the seat we never considered our proximity to the garbage. When the bin is put away inside the cabinet there is lots of walking room around the table, but after the bin is pulled out it turns out it's actually right beside the person eating at the table. Again we were the only diners in the restaurant and the garbage was not near full or overflowing at the time. We rushed to finish our meals and get out as we clearly got the vibe we weren't actually welcome to be dining inside and were in the way of their closing cleaning even tho it was still 3.5 hrs till their posted closing time. There was an entire restaurant they could've been tending to for the 15-20 min we were inside. Continuing to clean close enough we could almost bump you with our elbow after we already complied with staying away from where they had already started doing closing cleaning seemed inappropriate. We may still use the drive through but I won't be dining in and rushing the kids through another meal. If you don't want people inside, don't open the dining room. (I will also now be considering our proximity to garbage receptacles when choosing seats at any restaurant going forward just in case they have to pull a bin out again. I don't like it beside my food.)

If you are looking for a good burger and root beer chain, that has many franchises across Canada and a few in the USA with basic American fare and delicious root beer, then you have found it in this place.
When I needed to travel across the Western side of all of Canada to rescue my stranded adult kids in Alberta, I was unaware that I was going to see almost as many A&W restaurants as McDonald's.
The food was pretty good, but not amazing. The service staff was kind and the atmosphere was good because the place was squeaky clean.
