I usually don’t post complaints, but I felt I needed to share our recent experience at Asian Pear Buffet in Kelowna. My husband and I went there with our two small children (ages 5 and 3), hoping to enjoy a nice family meal. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way we hoped.

Our kids were not interested in eating much – they only nibbled on a single onion ring and a couple fries, and that was it. Before we even got the bill, I kindly let the staff know that our kids barely touched any food and asked for a heads-up about how it would be handled.

To our disappointment, we were still charged full buffet prices for both children – despite the fact that they hardly ate anything at all. I completely understand that it’s a buffet, but some flexibility and understanding in situations like this would go a long way toward better customer service.

I’m not asking for free meals – just a reasonable adjustment. In this case, we feel it would have been fair to only charge for myself and my husband. I hope the management reconsiders how they handle similar situations in the future. Families with young kids shouldn’t feel penalized for something out of their control.

Food quality was not good sushi had a crust like it had been out for awhile. Some of the fruit was ok and the ice cream was good

I am from out of town, so had no idea what to expect. Food pickup was for 4:30 and that’s exactly when it was ready. It was a large order and the gentleman who brought it to me insisted in carrying it out to my car. When I got to my friends home, the food was hot and fresh. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Don’t bring your kids!

We brought ours and our 1 year old of course threw some food on the ground. They ended up charging us extra for that. We were pretty disgusted, but not surprised - one worker kept walking past us and giving us the stink eye.

Bottom line: they will charge you extra when your kids act like kids (don’t finish everything or drop it on the floor).

I ate a big plate of shrimp and broccoli because they tasted alright, but there wasn’t anything special about the food. I have almost 10 years of experience as a past restaurant owner, I just want to state that this does represent asian
food. The dishes they made were put in little effort, I feel disappointed in this buffet. I think they put little to no effort on their food.

Food used to by way better.
They took the mussels off the menu.
The shrimp are now gross.
More than half the menu is stuff like frozen pizza and box mashed patatoes and fries.
The price is outrageous quality is mediocre.
It used to be affordable and good now it's expensive and disgusting.
I can't wait till they close.

Poor Service and one of the staff wearing a black shirt was kinda offensive his watching us and he makes sure we settle our bills. And yet we are still eating and they started charging our bills and not even one star he doesn't deserve it.
(he looks like the owner/manager)

I can’t believe how bad it was. I remember the old Asian Pear from four -five years ago. I used to go there fairly often for the buffet and the food was decent. My friend and I had been looking forward to going. We always talked about it, but it never happened. Finally tonight was the night. Both of us agreed it was terrible. They used to have a really good Seasoned shrimp dish. Well, they had shrimp all right .This time vein still in. Not cleaned Up at all. Food was bland In general. It was basically $36 taxes in water to drink. The chow mein and lemon chicken were okay . It wasn’t fantastic, but it was OK. Pretty hard to mess up chow mein. The potstickers were brutal. You can get better out of the box from Costco. How sad. We should’ve refused to pay, but they would’ve been crying . Never again will I go to the Asian Pear ? Save your money unless you don’t care what you eat. If it’s just about filling up the hole. Not even a fortune cookie at the end. Never been to a Chinese restaurant and not got a fortune cookie. Big rip off. I would say it was full of MSG by the way we reacted later on.

$35 for one person is OUTRAGEOUS. I would never spend that in a million years.
