Boccalino Restaurant, Motel & Cabins

Love to stay here in order to catch the early ferry while on my way to Toad Rock camp ground. The motel is so charming, very clean and comfortable and Gisela is a wonderful host.
Can't wait to visit the restaurant.

My husband and I had a fantastic 17-night stay at this charming, rustic motel in beautiful Kootenay Bay. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a genuine commitment to our comfort.

Our room was spotless, spacious, and tastefully furnished, perfectly blending rustic charm with modern amenities. We enjoyed waking up each morning to stunning views and peaceful surroundings.

We were in town for a family wedding, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. They were always available to offer recommendations and ensure we had everything we needed. Their attention to detail and dedication to guest satisfaction were exceptional.

The location was ideal—peaceful and serene, yet close to the natural beauty of the Kootenay Bay area. We spent our days exploring local attractions with our family, and eagerly returned to our cozy room each evening.

Although the motel's restaurant is currently closed due to a fire and no cooking is permitted on the premises, we managed fine with the help of family living nearby. We hope the restaurant will reopen or that they will consider providing a BBQ for guests in the future.

Overall, our stay was flawless. We highly recommend this cozy motel to anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming, and memorable stay in Kootenay Bay. We look forward to returning!

In the post COVID realm of questionable culinary experiences Boccalino continues to offer quality offerings, sourced as locally as possible and prepared professionally with a European flair. Gisela, the owner provides unsurpassed, expert service in a clean and pleasant, tastefully decorated dining room.Don’t miss this one of a kind experience, right at the east end of the Kootenay Lake ferry.

The service was excellent. Food delicious. Venue is very pretty. We had mussels and spinach dip appetizer which were very tasty. Risotto and pizza for dinner. All very good. Would give 4.5 if I could. Pizza dough a tad thick and some dishes lacking only slightly. Overall, very good food for the remote location. Would recommend.

A great place to grab a beer and an appy before jumping on the ferry! I was blown away how good the food was in this hole-in-the-wall.

We stayed in one of the 4 motel rooms mid July 2022. Kids and adults all really liked the room. The owners are very friendly and they let us check in early. The place is within ten min walk to the Kootenay Bay Ferry dock and is very easy to find. The restaurant looks very nice but we didn't make it back on time from Balfour to dine there. We ended up taking the 10:20pm ferry back to the motel. I would definitely stay there again if I am in that area.

To find a real European restaurant in the Kootenay's was a treat. It is feet from the ferry terminal so had someone not recommended it we would have chalked it up to fast food.The decor is bright and cheerful on the covered patio, the service was excellent.Our Caprese salad was fresh and tasty with a hint of pesto a nice treat.Our mains however fell short, my spaghetti pesto was under cooked and hard to eat. My wife's Schnitzel was tough and chewy leaving is both disappointed after having high hopes with the wonderful salad.

Amazing place to stay at, great room and if you either come and stay or even are just passing by, you definitely have to eat here. The food is amazing, the owners sure know what they are doing. The homemade soup, I could have eaten a gallon of it. We ordered the pizza, which is handmade and cooked in a wood burning pizza oven, the only way to go. And dessert, we had the apple and lemon tarts, if you love lemon curd that is made the way it is supposed to be made, you will love these. Also the handmade raspberry ice cream that Gisela had to wait 84 years to get the recipe, there is nothing better. We also had the breakfast, which was bacon and mushroom omelet with lightly truffled potatoes, and fresh bread with homemade jam. You definitely have to add this place to your trip, it is worth it.

Hubby and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary at Boccalino's and it was perfect!! The owners are top notch delightful, the food amazing and delicious (had raclette, vol-au-vent, tiger prawns, pork tenderloin and spatzli) and the outdoor patio is so refreshing. Thank you Gisela for your warmth and creating a lovely ambiance. You and your team made our evening very special. Thank you so much.
