I recently visited The Fox and Hounds, and I can honestly say it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, the staff seemed uninterested and inattentive. It took a long time just to get seated, even though the place wasn’t particularly busy, and once we were at our table, it felt like we were being ignored. Basic things like menus, water, and someone checking in on us seemed like too much effort for the servers.
When our food finally arrived, the disappointment only continued. The dishes looked sloppy and unappetizing, as if they had been thrown together without care. My meal was barely warm, and what should have been flavorful tasted bland and greasy. Others at my table had similar complaints—overcooked meat, soggy fries, and vegetables that tasted like they came straight from a freezer. For the prices they charge, the quality was far below what anyone should expect.
The service throughout the meal made the experience even worse. We struggled to get the attention of our server for refills or to ask for simple condiments, and when we did, they seemed annoyed rather than helpful. It felt like the staff just didn’t care about providing good service. To top it off, our plates sat on the table long after we had finished eating, which made it clear that attentiveness was not a priority here.
Overall, The Fox and Hounds was a huge letdown. Between the poor service and the subpar food, I left frustrated and unsatisfied. With so many better dining options available, I would strongly recommend avoiding this place altogether. Unless there are major improvements in both the kitchen and the staff’s attitude, I don’t see myself ever coming back

I used to travel from Nanaimo to Ladysmith to eat the beef dip at Fox and Hounds. No more! This was the third time that that the beef was over-cooked and ordinary. The dipping sauce was too salty. The buns used to be delicious, but now they are completely ordinary. And the price has gone up significantly. Sad!!

Food was good and service was very good. The problem that I am having is with the cost of the food. I understand that costs have gone up, but they are charging $8, for a side of mashed potatos. There is NO CALL FOR THAT!

So I had a bacon mushroom cheese burger, I’m putting it in my top 5. My only criticism is that my husband who’s celiac had the beef dip with the gluten free bun, but there au ju isn’t gluten free?? The employee said oh there’s only a little gluten in it lol. You can’t say that to a celiac it’s like saying oh there’s only a little poison in here . Use cornstarch instead of flour if that’s where you small amounts of gluten are coming from

The service was goood. Mostbof the food was good. The fish comes in huge portions! It very good. The cold scotch egg was a miss for us, seemed bland. The seafood chowder was excellent!
