OMG - the BEST ice cream and incredible service from amazing young employees. For the Karen who complained about the large portions - thank you! It was great to see generous portions, excellent location and staff who truly go above and beyond. 5 Stars!!!

Disappointing experience with lazy customer service
I stopped by to quickly get ice cream for two people. I ordered and paid right away, but the server made me wait 10 minutes while prioritizing a group of three who were still deciding on their flavors—even though another staff member was already helping them. I had to repeat my order twice.
I asked for one scoop of dairy-free strawberry sorbet for myself and one scoop of regular dairy strawberry for my partner. Instead, I was served two huge scoops crammed into one cup, with my sorbet at the bottom—impossible to reach before it started melting. We ended up throwing away about 70% of it.
Honestly, less is more. I wouldn’t serve such oversized portions even to kids, considering the impact of excess sugar and rising obesity rates in North America. The staff also need better training in efficiency and listening to customer requests.

It's okay, it's island farms so the same ice cream selection as mostly everywhere else on the island and it's not cheap. Actually the ice cream here had less chunks in than the other place I usually go to. They sell ice cream sandwiches but won't make one even if you're the only person in there. No toppings and the portions were small.
The affogato is good.

Okay four words is all this review really needs to convince you that you have to visit this place:
ROOTBEER FLOAT ICE CREAM
If you really think you need to know more (you really don’t) then sit down and buckle up. This is a lovely little store divided into two parts… the ice cream store (they have Rootbeer float ice cream!) which has ice cream and gelato and a few places to sit, and the other side which has sandwiches, baked goods, and various items for sale. You come for the ice cream or gelato (they have several flavours including Rootbeer float ice cream), and stay for a light lunch in a pleasant atmosphere rounding out an enjoyable visit to main street Ladysmith. The staff are pleasant, patient, and helpful, the food delicious, and the Rootbeer float ice cream divine.
I have stopped a few time for lunch and/or ice cream and have always been a happy/satisfied customer. However, today I discovered Rootbeer float ice cream (I may have mentioned it previously)… Rootbeer floats (with good French vanilla ice cream and A&W root beer) is one of my favourites. When I saw this store had a Rootbeer float flavoured ice cream I decided to try it on a whim… well, I did not expect what I tasted… it tasted EXACTLY like a Rootbeer float, foam and all (yes, the foam has its own distinctive flavour and yes that flavour came through in this ice cream!). Now I needed a second opinion, just as you, dear reader, I’m sure are saying “yah right, suuure it was just as good as the real float”, so I passed it around to the rest of my party and they were just as pleasantly surprised (dare I say shocked) at how good it is.
Okay, enough reading… start planning your visit and make sure to try all the flavours but first the Rootbeer ice cream float flavour. You won’t be disappointed with your visit or the ice cream.
For a weekend drive this place is a great spot for ice cream. The prices reflect the portion size that I received. I would recommend this place to anyone who LOVES ice cream.
