You can ask the store staff to heat up the croissant on site, but it's generally delicious but not amazing.

I come here frequently and have been coming for years. The sticky fruit bun is one of my favorites, but something has changed. There is less fruit and lemony icing, not sure if the Iranian raisins are used still. I would pay more for the bun to taste like it used to. A nutty lemon sweet crunchy bun with a tart lemon icing drizzled on top.
Coffee has changed but is good match for a sweet pastry.

As a tourist, I regret so much going to SABA cafe across the street. Blacksmith Bakery is so much better. The croissants are bigger than my face. It’s crispy and full of layers. The pastry looks professionally made and taste delicious. Most importantly, their hot food options are really good too. Good sandwiches, good soup.

Come here instead of SABA.

I ordered Pumpkin Spice Latte and Spinach Pesto Savoury Bun. Both smelled amazing and tasted delicious. I’ve visited several times already, but it’s always crowded on the weekends.

very underwhelming!

I think this place used to be better?

1. the staff is short with you if you ask questions.

around 4pm (they close at 5pm) I watched an older lady come in and ask ā€œAre you all out of bread for today?ā€

the staff member snapped at her : ā€œwe don’t sell breadā€ & barely made eye contact with her when he replied.

It’s called Blacksmith BAKERY. It makes sense that someone might mistake your bakery for selling bread. It helps to treat customers like their questions or mistakes aren’t stupid or insulting.

2. The staff will bark at you if you put your dishes in the wrong place.

the tray where you take your dishes isn’t obvious. That’s fine. People are smart and can use their eyes to figure out where their dishes go when they are done.

But don’t be surprised or annoyed if they put them in the wrong place (next to the barista?) if it’s not labeled where to take them.

3. the food is pretty meh. going to a cafe shop is treat & ideally better than what you can get at the grocery store. their tarts & bread pudding were a waste of calories imo. But taste is subjective…

4. there’s no wifi.

THATS FINE. there’s a growing movement of cafes not providing wifi because they want to encourage people to socialize / not hang out all day in the cafe working. TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE.

but you should assume people coming into your cafe are going to ask. again, don’t treat reasonable questions like they are an irritant. if you don’t like answering questions, make an effort to put up signs or make things more obvious.

The Blacksmith Benny is so wonderfully prepared, and the golden potatoes that come with it cooked perfectly. Staff do their best, even with customers coming in waves. There is a seating area in the back where you can watch them make your order while enjoying the atmosphere. Coffee is also very smooth.

Very cute neighbourhood bakery. Tried the Black Smith Benny & the Breakfast Sandwich for dine-in, 2 Mochas & a Chocolate Croissant. Benny was very good, Hollandaise wasn't too tart and had a cheesy decadence without feeling too heavy; Prosciutto gave the Benny an edge. The Breakfast Sandwich was good too, but we felt like it needed a tang/sauce to bring it to the next level. Chocolate Croissant was super flaky and delicious, although a bit lacking in chocolate inside. Mochas were very delicious as well, not too sweet and had a very nice coffee aroma (they use Republica Coffee beans).

Would come back to try other bakery items and maybe a latte or mocha again. The smells at the door definitely draw you in!

Blacksmith Benny - 4.5/5
Breakfast Sandwich - 3.5/5
Chocolate Croissant - 4/5
Mochas - 4/5

The most amazing salted maple latte I've ever had! Such a great flavour combination and the coffee was smooth and creamy. We also tried the bread and butter pudding croissant which was delicious. Came on a Sunday afternoon and the line was out the door but worth it for the latte. Lots of seating outside and inside.

Great spot for coffee and a treat. My favorite is a cappuccino and savory bun. Fort Langley is a beautiful place to walk around. We visit the Blacksmith bakery after a nice bike ride on the Fort to Fort Trail.

Always busy and for good reason, but we always seem to get a table outside and enjoy a pastry and coffee. It's a regular stop on our bike rides when in the area
