If you happen to be traveling the long, sun-washed stretch between the Lower Mainland and Kelowna or Kamloops — the arteries that connect much of British Columbia’s heartland, you’ll eventually pass through Merritt. A town that has seen its share of hardship, particularly since the mill closure, but still carries within it a quiet resilience that you can feel if you stop long enough to notice.

It was in this context that we found ourselves at Mongos Grill, an unassuming yet exceptional establishment that exemplifies something both rare and deeply necessary in our current age: careful attention to the details that matter.

The food is, first and foremost, delicious and fresh ingredients, vibrant flavours, and an evident commitment to doing things properly. The pricing is reasonable, not cheap, but fair….reflecting a respect for both the customer and the craft. It’s the kind of place where value is created, not extracted.

Now, let’s speak of cleanliness, because order, is no small virtue. Mongos Grill is immaculate. You can tell that the people who work here care about maintaining a space that is organized, hygienic, and inviting. The kitchen and prep areas are visibly clean, and the dining space reflects that same ethic of personal responsibility.

The staff, too, were warm and attentive, genuinely pleasant human beings who made the experience feel more like a shared meal than a transaction.

Highly Recommend!

Nothing to write home about in terms of ambience but for a small community the food was very good, and to be able to eat a healthy vegan meal other than a veggie burger and fries was a relief! You pick the ingredients, it gets weighed, pick a sauce and then it’s all sautéed right then. Veggies were fresh and a wide variety to choose from.

It’s a self-serve restaurant and you pay by weight! You can also pick more than one sauce if you’d like. Keep in mind they give rice on the side too. Went here 3 times in a week and it was great each time (: Just a note it can be on the warmer side inside but there are fans scattered throughout the restaurant.
