We discovered Black Rabbit Kitchen while celebrating our 20th anniversary in Nanaimo, and it was such a memorable experience. The food was outstanding and the drinks were just as impressive. The staff were warm and attentive, and the whole evening felt special. Highly recommend this gem, and we’ll definitely be back!

What a cute place! I didn’t get a good look at the inside as we sat on the patio but it’s very nice and modern. The exterior is lovely and we felt as though it was quite private out there from other diners.
Service was impeccable, friendly, attentive, not over the top. Just really great.
The food was excellent, we went for the tomato salad (special), burrata & bread - You HAVE to have the bread with it, trust me. Also we had the steak which comes with a lovely salad and house pickles. Everything was very obviously fresh, tomatoes were local, we asked for our steak rare, which it was. I can’t fault the meal at all, we will absolutely be back and will try and bunch of different things. There’s tons to choose from and hard to stick to just 3-5. Cocktails were delicious too, the LEAP especially was yummy.
We will be back!

The food was terrible most of it was over seasoned slop masquerading as fine dining. We ordered a smoked fish dip that was riddled with dill so you couldn't taste the fish and it was served with store bought chips, it felt like something I could have easily recreated with a tub of Philly dip for half the cost. The next embarrassment was the salad that had way too much going on for it to be enjoyable in any way, massive globs of blue cheese mixing with whole mint leaves with the stems still attached and half cut grapes with a dressing that had far to heavy of a rosemary flavor to it, destroyed any chance of it working. We held out hope for our main of gnocchi which was the only dish of the night served under seasond tasting of mush with a sauce that I'd bet money was canned, it was so bad after just two bites I sent it back and they told me the best they could do was make the one dish fifty percent off. We just wanted to escape as soon as possible so we didn't fuss further but needless to say I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I don't hand out five star reviews easily... But this place absolutely deserves it. The building is very much retains the charm of the old rail station building. There is a little shop with local art and some very neat items. Despite the building having history, the place felt new and fresh. Especially the patio! The server was incredibly knowledgeable on all the dishes. It's a small menu, with rotating local ingredients. We were briefed about where the produce was obtained from as well. The dishes arrive staggered, with plates for sharing everything.

The food quality was absolutely top notch, and it tasted insanely good. The presentation was amazing as well. The beet dish came with radishes cut out in the shape of bunnies.

This place absolutely blew me away, and I will be recommending it to everyone. Thank you for that experience!

What a great place. The plates really are meant for sharing. We ordered 4 veg and 2 bread. We 3 ladies couldn't eat it all, and we love to eat!

Was visiting Nanaimo and made a last minute dinner reservation at Black Rabbit. The food was absolutely delicious. Large portions, especially for sharing plates, and complex flavours. The seared tuna was our favorite - so fresh! The shop with local art was open, so I picked up a few things on the way out.

They had a duck dish that wasn't for me but the seared tuna was phenomenal.
The zucchini dish, I ordered for a basic flavoured dish as it's a share style meal but it was the most intriguing dish. My aunt and I could not figure out what that one hint was.

I would definitely recommend.
I did send the duck back and I did have to pay for it. I expected as such, so im not bothered but I know some people would be.

Please dont let my duck experience prevent your choice to dine here.

Service was good. The two eggs benedicts were good but the breakfast sandwhich the egg was way too salty. Could not eat the egg. Was offered 10 % off of the sandwhich which was very disappointing. Oversll not sure if i would go back.

No contest - the best restaurant in Nanaimo. I love that the menu changes as things come into season. You have to share! Such a great experience to enjoy the dishes together. Best dishes of the evening were the tuna and the duck!
