I came over to Nanaimo with some friends with the EXPRESS mission to taste the best Nanaimo bars ever. We drove in Saturday afternoon and found out that sickness had taken the bakery by storm. Red’s is a gem! We traveled several hours and even hopped on a ferry to get there, only to find out they were closed due to staff illness. Disappointed but understanding, we didn’t expect what happened next—the owners saw a friend’s Facebook post about our trip and invited us to return the next morning. Not only were they open, but they had Nanaimo bars waiting for us!
