This restaurant is a gem and I am so happy we stopped for lunch on our way through. The brisket was very good and my husband said the chowder was the best he’s ever had (and he frequents Boston).

Ambiance was amazing- such a charming spot. Food and beer were excellent. The rainbow roll was delicious. Large portion sizes.

Tried the lager and hazy IPA - both really tasty. We shared the fried chicken and pickles, the burnt ends and a blueberry salad. Food was excellent as was the service. Highly recommend!

What a fantastic setting for delicious food and beer. We were visiting the island with our dog, and went here as it was one of the few breweries/restaurants with a dog friendly patio. The patio had lots of picnic tables with plenty of shade overlooking the surrounding farm. We ordered the beef and chicken burgers, both of which were great. The IPAs were top notch, with the Spruce Tip being the standout. The service was really friendly, but we did feel a little rushed near the end of our visit.

If you're travelling from Victoria up island you get stuck in that god awful stop and go traffic in Nanaimo...
Say no more

Rusted rake has it all, AC, Beer, Food, and views!

Farm to table, beer to mouth, 1000% the best choice you made - far better choice than driving through Nanaimo 👌

Loved this spot! Overall awesome experience, food and beer were great. But particularly the service was phenomenal. A shout out to Senay who really went above and beyond. Probably the best service we’ve had at a restaurant :-) A big thank you and we will be back!

I am so impressed every time I come here.

Sitting here right now, after the brisket sandwich and chowder. Good god that was good. Enjoy a wandering Scotsman.

Our server., sarah/candice/tany/Debbie whatever she said her name was,
so sorry, the food gave me temporary name amnesia, Was amazing. Bright, cheery, friendly, and welcoming. We sat at the front window. Tell her devin/Simon /steve and I think she was one of the best servers we have had the pleasure of meeting. Truly, management, she deserves a raise.

Update: Kari lol.

What a great way to unwind after a hot day.

Thank you so much for providing such a nice location, so close to my home.

Great place I didn't know about before coming here. Cozy atmosphere, good beers and great food. Brisket burnt ends were amazing. Tasty burger. Fried chicken was crunchy on the outside and really juicy. Recommend this place both for the food and drinks. We visited twice in a week, Dec 21 and Dec 28, when driving up/down the island.

I recommend Rusted Rake for their beer and their food. The staff are always helpful and friendly. It is located very close to the 19A Highway so easy to pop in when driving by. The first time we stopped here was by chance. We were going into Nanoose Bay and saw the sign. We bought a selection of their beers and really enjoyed them. Now, when we are in the area, we stop in to get more cans of our favorites. This a small, local brewery that crafts delicious beers.

For our more recent stop with out of province visitors, we stayed for their Sunday brunch. We sat out in the patio area that is enclosed with a heater. It was warm and comfortable. The menu had a good variety of breakfast and lunch items. They even had vegetarian/ vegan options available. Our meals were very tasty. The service from when we walked in until when we left was excellent. Everyone was very friendly.

Vegetarian options: There are veggie options on the menu and they can adapt to make it vegan.

Honestly, this is probably the best brewery on the island, having been to most from Victoria up to Port Alberni over the past decade. The beer is quite good, and they do a good job of keeping a unique rotation of seasonal flavors, but in my opinion the food steals the show. I would come back here even if I didn't enjoy beer just for the food menu. We like the atmosphere and the service has always been great as well. Highly recommend for anyone local or visiting the mid-island area, or passing through to Tofino.
