After 3-4 tries at Sakura, I’m not impressed with the quality of the food. Presentation is nice, sushi rolls are well constructed, but the flavours and ingredients are more westernized and lacking the traditional flavour profile I enjoy with more authentic Japanese sushi. The main reason I’m writing this review is because the sashimi has been terribly disappointing every time I’ve eaten there (also had been given ice cold tempura battered veggies and a horribly overcooked 45$ special lobster roll in which case the lobster was like trying to eat a rubber boot.) On one occasion the sockeye sashimi was laid atop a bed of lemon slices, which ruined the flavour and made me wonder if they were trying to mask some off flavour/aromas. I took my partner there last night and ordered sockeye sashimi (I’ll attach pictures) and something was way off with the fish. It didn’t look like sockeye (fat layers and grain looked like farmed salmon) and was the most brilliant cherry red, as if it had been dyed or something. Intuition told me something was wrong with the appearance of the “sockeye” we were offered. When I confirmed with the waitress that we had indeed been given wild sockeye, she was unapologetic and despite seeing that we hadn’t touched it, offered no recompense. She just told us her husband is a commercial fisherman and implied we don’t know our wild salmon, which felt a bit condescending and unconciliatory. Anyways I’m done. We spent over 100$ without drinks or desserts and felt like it was a waste of $$$. Improper attitude and barely passable sushi. Only ever went there because there was no seating at the good sushi joint (Kurama). We won’t be going back.

Me and my boyfriend came here and honestly we were really surprise by how good it was. I had the torch boy sushi and spicy salmon sushi and he had the Seafood Soondubu and the fish quality was amazing, good spicy level. It has lots of ingredients, they’re not cheap on portions. Maybe too much for one person hehe
If we ever come back, we will be eating here.

Racist server!!! The tall old guy with white hair can't digest that he gotta serve us. Would not recommend going there at all!!! Edit :- I'd like to clarify that our issue wasn't just with the seating arrangement, but with the attitude of the server. When we politely asked to change tables due to the wobbling, he told us to "pick any" table, but when we tried to choose a seven-seater, he rudely told us "no, not that one." His tone was dismissive, and his facial expression showed no friendliness or willingness to help, which made us feel very uncomfortable. It wasn't just about the table; it was the overall lack of hospitality. We ultimately decided to leave because of this poor experience.

Just to update on what happened it wasn’t that we were denied a big table, we never wanted a big table to begin with. We entered and no one greeted us with a smile and the tall guy i guess the server came to us we said hi table for two and he seemed mad for some reason and said go ahead and sit (with no smile or hi how are you) . We sat on a table of two and it was wobbling so he came back with water we asked him can we please change our table? This one is wobbly . He was RUDE and said okay “PICK ANY TABLE” in a frustrating tone which anyone can tell. Then my boyfriend got irritated and he said okay he said pick any so why not this big one? That’s when your server got more frustrated and said “NO, NOT THAT ONE”. He didn’t greet us he didn’t say how are you guys with a smile - no customer service whatsoever. And then my boyfriend said let’s go we’re not eating here he’s so rude, in-front of your server and he just stood there and looked at us i don’t want him to beg but at-least ask is everything alright guys? If you don’t like your job don’t do it. We only wanted a change of table to a another one. We especially came from Castlegar just to try out this restaurant. Soo disappointed.

Went here for dinner with 2 others. Service was remarkably slow. Our server messed up our order twice, then also messed up the bill. There were only 3 other tables and it took close to an hour for our food. We had to ask for a drink menu (on a Saturday night). Sushi was subpar. Negitoro roll was very big and had a bad texture. Yam roll was monstrously large. Wanted to try salmon avocado roll but was brought 2 spicy tuna rolls instead, which was the most palatable roll. Also had the popcorn roll which I would skip in the future, the scallops were breaded and deep fried which gave an off flavour.
