The food was great but the staff was VERY rude. I made a reservation 2 days earlier and received an email confirmation that it went through. We showed up, had our meal and while the service wasn’t great it also wasn’t terrible until the moment we paid and I still had half of my $16 drink left and the server told us that they actually didn’t see our reservation on file so we needed to head out because they needed the table. No apologies for the mixup or anything… so we went and spent our money elsewhere. We were there a total of 1.5 hours and eating and drinking the entire time and our meals took a bit and were only served about 20 minutes before we got kicked out. Anyway, there are lots of great restaurants in Nelson. I’ll skip this one from now on.

We were not satisfied. The Burger and salad was really disappointing and the service can definitely improve a lot. We thought first we were not lucky that night but a friend went one day after and had the same experience, even worse than ours. Don’t know why it’s rated so high.

The Cauldron is unlike any other that I've experienced in the Kootenays and I continue to be drawn back to this spot because the menu is never the same and yet somehow everything that I order continues to be best in class...

Loved the classic charcuterie board with fresh bread! Everything was flavorful, fresh and delicious. I want the recipe for the peach caramel jam - I would eat this every day! It was amazing with the goat cheese. Duck salami was so delicious! Super nice staff. I would go back here again and again.

We had a reservation but still ended up standing at the door for about 19 minutes with no acknowledgment from the staff. The waitress briefly said “one second” without making eye contact, and eventually, the bartender asked if we were the ones with a reservation — then pointed us to an empty table right beside where we had been waiting with an infant for 10 minutes.
Funny enough, before arriving, when I called to confirm our 7:30 reservation, the waitress asked if we could come at 8:00 instead because they only had one high chair, which wouldn’t be available yet. We said 8:00 would be too late and assured her we’d bring our own — which we did.
Once seated, the bar began closing, and it was difficult to get service — I had to call out to the bartender from our table just to place an order. To clarify, most of the other tables were already finishing up and leaving, so it wasn’t a busy rush.
The food itself was mixed: the charcuterie board was good, the salad was overdressed, and the shrimp dip was okay but nothing special. Overall, the service experience was disappointing, especially considering we had a reservation and arrived prepared.
