Cute place, as we watched the open kitchen we saw the cook munching on something as our lunch was being made. The tables were dirty.
15$ for a greasy bunwich and the soup was so salty it hid the flavor.
We were very disappointed ?

Nice place, we watched the cook eating something while she was cooking our meal. We had to ask for cutlery. The soup was so salty I couldn't eat it, even then I was burping up grease from the sandwich. The tables we're dirty. I rate the Block 3/10 and it got three because it was a cute place.
The food was absolutely exceptional. We had the Scallop Chowder and the Colombiana Sandwich. The soup was beautifully presented and made hot to order. The sandwiches are out of this world delicious.
Comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, the owner was attentive, and overall great ambiance.
Highly recommend the Block at Railtown!
No picture because we were so hungry and it was too delicious to put down. Full on experience with no phones.

I can't recommend The Block, highly enough. Chef Kyle has crafted an extraordinary menu, and the sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Recently, they hosted a beautiful, private dinner for our nanny’s funeral, and the entire family was in awe of the meal and the care put into the evening. The ambiance was warm and intimate, making it a truly special experience during a difficult time. Five stars all the way!

amazing breakfast sandwiches!! very kind and thoughtful staff
We recently requested Kyle Dampsy of 'The Block at Railtown' Catering to assist us with a high-end guided wine and culinary experience. Kyle was able to source delicious and fresh local ingredients to coordinate with our theme. He spent the time to understand what we were hoping to accomplish and confidently took charge of the back end. Without exception, our guests were delighted with the quality of food. We were seeking a wow factor, and we got it! From the way he kindly addressed the group before service, to the way he overcame obstacles that presented themselves along the way, we could not recommend him enough. 5 Star food and service. Our complements to the chef!

The Block at Railtown is a sandwich lover’s dream! Amazing flavours, fresh ingredients, and hearty portions that hit the spot every time. Don't bother with the "skinny" size sandwiches--you'll want/need the "fat" sized! Best sandwiches in town, hands down. 11/10!
Stopped in on our way through town. Had no idea what a lucky choice we had made. Chef quality cauliflower soup made using their own custom stock was so good I could live off it. Then the cheese steak sandwich was made with the most tender flavourful beef. The owner was so friendly and informative - he told us the beef was cooked over 14 hours no wonder it was so delicious. Drinks very refreshing. Don’t miss this place for a light lunch it’s out of this world. The location inside the old train station was charming.

Incredibly overpriced for what you get. Flavour was good, but literally it’s just smoked meat on a bun - and the buns weren’t even homemade! They were from Safeway ! And I know this as my bakery items were given in a Safeway bun bag. If you are charging $20 for a sandwich, so $60 for two people to eat lunch, you can afford a dang takeout bag for bakery items. Will not be going back. Time to rethink your business model.

More people need to know about this place! Lovely location, the staff is always delightful + their small selection of sandwiches is to die for! I have been there maybe 4 or 5 times now and always happy with the food and service.

I wish I lived in Nelson so I could eat here more often! As someone who has travelled through BC a lot, I find this one of the best finds! We stopped here for lunch, had Mom’s Chicken, La Colombiana, the daily iced tea, and shared the hometown chowder. The meat was so tender and juicy, and the toppings were fantastic. I can’t wait to come back and try more on the menu!

Words cannot describe just how amazing The Block is. A simple menu done so incredibly well I’m already thinking of the next sandwich before I’ve finished the current one. My all time favorite have been the Kootenay Cheesesteak with Moms chicken as a very close runner up. I’m not sure how they do it but the mom’s chicken literally has the comfort and the taste of chicken soup but on a bun. The staff is always so welcoming and friendly as well. Of all of the great places to eat in Nelson, The Block is truly the best. Also can’t forget that they locally source their ingredients and it truly makes a world of difference. Their daily iced teas and lemonades are the cherry on top of an incredible experience.
