Just had lunch here.My friend and I got here at 12:30pm and the server only took our order when we were looking around hoping to find someone to take our order. After that, it took them an HOUR to serve these three dishes. The visual presentation is acceptable but most of the dishes were overcooked and just generally not as good as expected. The salad on the tuna tataki was also very soggy and not fresh at all.EDIT: at the time of the visit, apart from myself and my friend, there were a maximum of 4 other tables. So the restaurant was not excessively busy. Our service experience was just terrible.

The host was so rude and behaving inappropriately. Shame on the restaurant for hiring such a disrespectful host. Clearly, the worst restaurant I have ever stepped on.

Hyaaa… so late la!One of those late nights and options were limited so decided to try out this place for some take out while on the way home. This place is located right beside Douglas college on 8th Street in New West. There are paid street parkings available (I see roof top parking?)Here were the food I ordered to go;1. Soft shell crab. Lack of flavour and a bit too crunchy for a soft shell crab to my liking.2. Tako wasabi. Pretty good, not slimy.3. Salmon and tuna sashimi. Decent size and fresh but could use a bit of a presentation even though it’s a take out (all sushi places should STOP putting lemon slices near sashimis, they literally cook the outside of whatever fish it touches).4. Salmon, hamachi, chopped scallops, tamago, albacore toro nigiris. Fresh but the toros missing that buttery taste.5. Spider roll and futomaki. The futomaki was pretty good. The spider roll was a bit off, maybe because the softshell crab was a bit off.6. Deep fried poached egg. Surprisingly pretty good, I actually enjoyed it. I could snack on a couple of these.7. Asari garlic butter. It was pretty bland even though I do smell the garlics. And what’s with so much broth? It’s like a guppy fish swimming in the ocean.8. Beef teriyaki with rice. The rice could be softer and the beef could be less dry and slightly thicker so it wouldn’t be like eating beef jerky with rice. When I went to pick up the order, the restaurant was pretty quiet with one table of customers. A weird little sense of silence especially late at night in New West. The service from the server who packaged my order was okay, although could be more welcoming . Maybe cause it has been a long day and it was late.As for the food, I was hoping it to be decently okay because I was counting on it to be my late night take out place but they fell short of that… hyaaaa! Too bad for me la!

I was not impressed with the service at this location as the servers were cold and more concerned with having people leave than ensuring customers were enjoying their experience. The food was decent so no complaints there. The service was an absolute disgrace, never checked on the table to see if we needed anything, took forever to come out with the drinks/food. Finally, just when my partner and I thinking about ordering another dish, we had one of the servers come up and say they were bringing our bill which I found beyond disrespectful. Why not just say we don’t want you here so pay up and leave. I generally always tip 25-30% as I feel servers deserve to be tipped well. This was the first time I tipped 15%. I have been to a few sushi locations in New West and have been happy with the service but never coming back to this location. Should have just gone to Ki Sushi down the street as they tend to treat their customers with respect. Can’t believe I spent over $100 at a place like this. I guess you live & learn.

I've eaten lunch here once before with work colleagues and the food was good. However, I placed a simple, large order (10 cucumber rolls & 5 avocado rolls) this past weekend and they completely botched it up. In fact, I have never come across such gross incompetence in placing a food order anywhere before, even in foreign countries where English comprehension was limited.I called on Sat night for a Sunday noon pickup. The girl that initially took my call seemed clued-out, so asked me to wait and another girl took my order. However, the girl that came on seemed even worse. Her incompetence was appalling. I had to repeat myself several times as she couldn't seem to grasp what I was asking for.My English annunciation is clear - English is my first language, being born & raised in Canada and am a post-secondary lecturer and former teacher. I also used to work in the restaurant industry years ago, so am familiar with how they operate. The girl who took my order seemed like she wanted to get me off the phone and hang up - no asking if I'd like anything else, or if she'd like my name and phone number, until I asked her. Then it was like an "oh yeah" moment for her. I specified to her no sesame seeds on anything, asked her to repeat the order back to me, and asked how much. She told me it was $21 when it should have been over $50. So I asked her again and she seemed confused, then appeared to be recalculating due to the pause, and told me the same amount. So I left it at that - if she wanted to charge less, I wasn't going to complain.Upon pickup the next day, I was 10 minutes late. They presented me with a very small order. Not trusting them based on the phone call, I checked it, and sure enough, it was completely wrong. One cucumber roll and 5 tamago rolls!!They apologized and asked if I could wait 10 minutes. I could not. The order was for my daughter's birthday party and we were already cutting it close to our arrival time. Not wanting to deal with more incompetence, I told them to cancel the order and provide proper training to their staff. I have never been so furious with a restaurant's incompetence as I have with Hyack and I will not be endorsing their service in the future. Ki Sushi across the street has demonstrated much better service and higher quality food (i.e., they only serve wild salmon, unlike Hyack which serves both wild and the farmed garbage).I am rating Hyack a 2 based on the one decent experience I had eating in before. Otherwise it would be a 1 based on my phone order and pickup experience. So in a nutshell, don't waste your time here. Walk across the street to Ki Sushi or anywhere else. And certainly don't place a pickup order!

Food is alright, but take out experience could use some work. 30 minutes was added to the delivery time after the order(restaurant was empty?), happy to tip on take out but their service requires a minimum 15% which is a bit much for take out. Also requested no bag, chopsticks or soy sauce, and they didn't follow through on that.

Everything on the menu was really good. Especially my husband likes cream cheese aburi rolls, salmon balm, and al dynamitrol. All the chicken dishes are also really good. It's our favorite restaurant. I highly recommend you to go and taste it.

I wish I took more photos, lol. I had salmon sashimi and grilled squid. The sashimi was good, but the squid wasn't just good. It was fantastic! Texture, freshness, marinating are all 10 out of 10. You can order food on your phone (each table has a QR code).

Attentive service, clean tables, tasty dishes, and good portion for the price. The gyu katsu (not pictured) is my favourite thing to get there. One thing is the nigiri & sushi dishes could be better; the rice lacked vinegar.
