Tucked away behind the bustling shops on Marine Drive lies a hidden gem- Bad Dog Bread: a tiny, unassuming container that holds the secret to the best sourdough I’ve ever tasted.
The shatteringly crisp crust acts as a golden armor for the soft, pillowy crumb with just the right amount of spring. It’s the kind of bread that doesn't just sit on your tongue. It practically melts, leaving behind that signature, sophisticated tang.
While everything they bake is incredible, the country and the cranberry walnut sourdoughs are my favorites. You can say that the country sourdough is the gold standard. It’s rustic and honest, highlighting the natural, earthy sweetness of the grain. On the other hand, the cranberry walnut sourdough is a masterclass in texture. You get bursts of tart, jammy fruit followed by the toasted, buttery crunch of walnuts. It’s a sensory experience in every slice.
Honestly, part of me wants to keep this place a secret because if I tell you how good this artisan bread is, it’ll be even harder for me to snag a loaf before they sell out. But the craftsmanship here is so incredible that it would be a shame not to support them. If you’re on the North Shore, you have to try it- just don't forget to leave some for me.

Got there just in time this Sunday afternoon (with my little Daisy dog) praying there would be a cinnamon bun left. Never had one before and sooo worth the wait, perfection in the cinnamon and sugar levels and the dough, rich delicious dough but not too soft. And tomorrow I will try the Pain aux Raisins...but today it was Pain aux Cranberry instead. Merveilleux! (I also got to try another beautiful pastry, I believe orange flavoured with Quark cheese filling...my first time too and so lovely). The even better part of my Bad Dog Bread visit? The woman who waited on me - I left there uplifted by her kindness to me (and this at the end of her busy day). Thank you, I went home so happy!....a la prochaine : )

When I went to this bakery, therewas a lineup well outside the front door.. Other bakeries in the area do not generallyhave lineups.
Have you ever been driving, and one lane has a super long line, and is backed up, and the other doesn't. So you take the empty lane, and end up forced to take a wrong turn. And you think to yourself that obviously the lane with the lineup was the right lane. That's why there was a lineup!
Ya, there is a lineup for a reason.

Maybe there are other bakeries in North Vancouver that are as good as Bad Dog, but I have yet to find them. Their bread is brilliant. Sourdough is my absolute favourite. Their Stollen is now available. I'll be buying that soon. So, so tasty.

I been to this bakery shop several times, ordered almond croissant, chocolate croissant, and salt chocolate cookies. I would say the cookie taste la better than both croissants. Both croissants are at dryer said and quite dense, not the typical fluffy texture. Imo, provision on west 4th has the best croissant and pastry.

Excellent, breads variety of choices all, Double baked, Country and Olive bread, my favourites.
THE BEST bakery. I feel like I am at a boutique boulangerie in Antwerp, their baked goods are that good. And the bread is second to none... well, possibly second to the brilliant artwork outside their shop :-)
It's always a good day when it's a Bad Dog Day.
