Louis Gervais Fine Foods & Catering

I’m sharing this review in hopes that it helps others make an informed decision when considering Louis Gervais for catering. I’ve included photos of the platters we received for a “finger food/light refreshments” event for 80 guests. While the company appears to have strong reviews online, my experience tells a very different story.
When I first contacted the company, I clearly stated that I was organizing an event for 80 attendees, had a budget - but was flexible to go higher if they thought it would offer even better options, and most of all, welcomed their guidance since I was new to planning something of this scale. Based on their recommendation, I ordered four platters—which were described as serving a total of 120 people. To be cautious, I even added a fourth platter.
When the food arrived on the day of the event, our immediate reaction was shock and deep concern. For $977, what we received looked more appropriate for a small gathering, not an event of 80. It genuinely felt like we had been taken advantage of. I hesitate to use the word “scammed,” but that was the sinking feeling I had—especially knowing how many guests we needed to serve.
After expressing my concerns, the owner eventually offered one additional tray, stating that everything I initially received had been “accurately weighed” and matched their listed portions. Even with that tray, the quantity was still not nearly enough to feed our group, even by light refreshment standards.
What was most disappointing, however, was the tone of communication that followed. After picking up the extra tray, I received unprofessional and inappropriate text messages from Louis himself. Only after sending a formal follow-up email did I receive a partial apology, but again, they stood by the idea that the food provided was sufficient.
To add context: two of the trays were cheese and charcuterie, each priced at $310 and claimed to serve 40–45 people. I invite anyone to view the attached photos and ask yourself whether what was delivered lives up to those claims.
Ultimately, this experience was disheartening, expensive, and stressful. I hope my review—and the attached photos—offer some transparency to others so they can approach this caterer with caution, clear expectations, and, ideally, look elsewhere.

I’ve visited this place a few times after my appointments, as it’s conveniently located next door. I usually enjoy a coffee and snack while waiting for my ride. It’s been a nice spot to unwind.

Today, however, was disappointing. I had barely been inside for a minute (no joke) and hadn’t even had a chance to get up and order when a lady approached me and asked if I was going to buy anything. I explained that, YES, I was, and that I was just waiting for my ride and asked if that was okay. Her response: ‘No, not really. You should order something at least.’

That kind of assumption and tone left a sour taste. I came in with the full intention of ordering, but after being spoken to like that, I honestly didn’t feel welcome anymore. I left immediately.

As someone with over 15 years of experience in hospitality and even more in customer-facing roles, here’s some advice: A little patience and understanding goes a long way. And don’t jump to conclusions, it can turn a loyal customer away for good.

It’s unfortunate, but even the best product can’t make up for poor service and attitude.

Excellent food. Service is good even when they get super busy. Try avoid lunch time if you want quick service.

Perhaps difficult to assess Louis Gervais Fine Foods as the reviews are a mix of bistro reviews and catering reviews. However, having had a delicious lunch there and reading through a variety of reviews, it's evident that quality and flavours are consistently excellent across both experiences. Specific notes for the onsite bistro: great outdoor patio, craft beers are available in the cooler, and I wish they would update their weekly menus consistently online (the website's latest menus were nearly 2 months previous).

The team at Louis Gervais catering provided a wonderfully festive dinner for 35 at our home. From start to finish it was amazing! Initially I met with Chloe who helped me with menu choices and provided flexible options without blinking an eye. The team kept in touch with me prior to the event to ensure I had everything I needed. On the day of our party, Jennifer arrived at the appointed time to set up and provide me with excellent instructions to execute what was a brilliant dinner! Everyone loved the food and we had plenty for all!

Chef Louis followed up following the event to ensure that things had gone smoothly and arrange pick up of equipment.
I was very impressed with the whole team and highly recommend them for events of all sizes.

They're true professionals. Our whole experience working them was seamless and the food at the tasting, and event was incredible. I come here a lot and the service is usually great but today I spent $6 plus a tip on a small bocconcini salad and was served with a miniscule amount of food.. this isn't the first time this has happened (with the same lady serving the food) which has led me to write a review because it is simply not ok to charge your customers full price if you're only serving a third of the serving size, there is barely enough to cover the bottom of a small container.. the portion given is NOT worth the amount paid, so unacceptable

We had the absolute pleasure of having Louis Gervais cater our wedding.

The food and service was incredible. Everybody was raving about the canapes, entrées and deserts.

The team was incredibly dialed in, and Mr. Gervais himself was in the kitchen making sure everything was tip-top. They went over and above. We had a last minute issue, completely unrelated to food service, and the team was still able to step up and help us even though it had nothing to do with them!

Louis Gervais did the catering for our wedding and it was nothing short of spectacular. Both the quality of food and the level of service delivered were above expectations. As the groom, Chef Louis and his staff went out of their way to make the day extra special for myself and my wife.

I recently used Louis Gervais for catering for my wedding! My experience with them leading up to my wedding date was so fantastic, I also had catering from them for my wedding rehearsal dinner, which was incredible! Throughout the entire planning process, Sabine was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. She was so kind, professional, responsive, and really respectful about accommodating my budget. The buffet at our wedding was INCREDIBLE, all our guests loved it, many people went up 3 or 4 times! Throughout the evening, the staff at Louis Gervais were on top of everything from clearing plates, making sure my husband and I received dessert, and re-stocking the buffet with hot food. Chef Louis was also incredible, hilarious, and so helpful and willing to accommodate anything we wanted, from different side dishes to delicious sauces. I would not hesitate to recommend Louis Gervais for any of your catering needs!

Second time using Louis Gervais and it’s still excellent. Pleasure planning with them ahead of time and lovely and professional staff day of event. We were able to relax and enjoy the party with our guests. Delicious food! Thank you for making my dad’s 90th birthday extra special.
