The all around best bakery. The BEST doughnuts this side of of Mississippi. We live in GrandForks and go thru Oliver to Kelowna just for Big Als. Little longer drive but worth the gas

We have stopped by this bakery several times in the past and most recently on our way to and from Osoyoos to go camping. We were very impressed that we could phone ahead and place an order so that we could just make a quick stop and my wife ran in to pay and pick up. The sausage rolls are always our big favorites as well as the apple fritters and another sweet bakery item, not sure what it is called, but it is made, deep fried (NOT greasy at all) and then chocolate is drizzled all over it. Delicious!! The staff on the phone taking our order, both times, were extremely helpful, polite and top of their game. I highly recommend checking the bakery/deli out. If what we purchased is any indication of the quality and freshness of their goods, then I am sure everything else is great also. Support local businesses, this one deserves it for sure!!!

Big Al's caters to a local clientele...a coffee/bakery vibe. Not fancy..but loads of nice folks.
However...they have a fabulous item...only available till gone, fresh each day. Like the sausage rolls and other baked goods.. and then there is the piece de' resistance...a double chocolate croissant. The problem is...once you have one, you have to come back the next day..and the next...which is fine if you live in Oliver, not so much if you fa fa away.

Such a great bakery, they have awesome breakfast and lunch options, topped with a bit of a deli and doughnuts that are amazing and so much better then tim hortons, they have a deep fried croissant that is then glazed and topped with chocolate drizzle, soooooo goood.

Hubby will prob be mad at me for this review, Big Al's being a fave go-to here (& he hates crowds) but I hafta give credit where it's due..
It's one of Oliver's must-stop specialty shops, & our main reason for making the trip on our way to Rock Creek: for me, to pick up one of their ultra-fresh green salads (with a tub of vinaigrette on the side, it's nothing fancy but the perfect revival after a 5-hour drive) & for hubs, to stock up on their incomparable breads, buns & deli treats.
Everything at Al's is made from scratch right there - incl. gorgeous custom-order cakes for any occasion..
Tho it can't be called vegan, it's one of the few sources of local grass-fed organic cheese/ dairy I know of. And that's a step forward for all.. cows included!
PS. Big Al isn't just a name, he's the real (v tall) friendly guy who owns & runs this bustling Oliverian treasure. Kudos

Watch your dates on purchases, they tend to leave old products on shelves ( expensive items) that are long outdated. Also pie which is over priced has been made days or so before and frozen then put on shelf claiming they are fresh meanwhile not true. This place is hit and miss.
