Checkmate Artisanal Winery

Absolutely brilliant winery. We are so glad we ended our stay in Osoyoos with a visit to Checkmate. Jackson was our person, and he treated us extremely well. We had great chats with him and he really helped us with our decisions on the wine. In the end we purchased six bottles of wine, including a great collection of chardonnays and merlots. The presentation of the six bottles in the gift box were exemplary, and well worth the cost. Thank you to Checkmate, and most of all Jackson, for a wonderful afternoon!

Had an amazing experience at Checkmate during the summer. Our server Amanda had so much knowledge and passion for wine and winemaking and was so great to chat to. The scenery was incredible, wine delicious, and charcuterie to die for! Thanks Amanda and Checkmate, we will be back.

My experience at Checkmate was THE highlight of my trip out west, thanks to Amanda! She is so easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about all of the wines we tasted, which were all outstanding. Super personable experience and would recommend a visit to anyone considering and I am looking forward to returning!

We had such a wonderful experience at Checkmate Winery thanks to our server, Amanda. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines, offering thoughtful recommendations that made our tasting feel personalized and special. Amanda struck the perfect balance of professionalism and warmth and she made us feel welcome and taken care of without ever rushing us. Her passion for the wines and genuine hospitality really elevated our visit.

11/10 experience. Visited the winery with my partner and we were seated on the patio with the most stunning view. Surrounded by vineyards and my personal favourite was all the purple Russian sage. James, Jack, Sean and Amanda made the experience exceptional! Attack is my favourite Chardonnay ever !

We went there to try a couple of wines, the parking lot was empty, there was almost no one inside (the dining room was more than half empty) and there was a lot of staff. We asked if we could squeeze in to taste 1 or 2 wines and the answer was a firm no stating that the room was full (we are only 2). Avoid this place they want to create a false sense of exclusivity. We had this issue nowhere else in our winery tour..

As a Canadian Hotelier who has worked all over the world, it was incredibly gratifying to visit Checkmate. The commitment to quality was exemplary, and I am sure this winery will lead the way for Canadian Wines to finally get the recognition they deserve.

We did a Grand Master tasting, and John Schmidt, our host, was deeply knowledgeable about the winery, the vineyards, and the wines. It was refreshing to speak to someone with his depth of knowledge as I have found this to be a rarity. John is an outstanding ambassador for the region and the winey. I would highly recommend both the wines and a visit, but if you go, ask for John.

We were fortunate to visit Checkmate for a Grand Master tasting yesterday and the experience was absolutely world class! Our Ambassador, John Schmidt, was the consummate host - knowledgeable, charming, attentive, professional and full of great stories. Wines were delicious with a gorgeous view of the vineyards. As the daughter of hoteliers I grew up in the hospitality sector and have traveled to many wine regions in the world. Checkmate is one of the finest. Be sure to request John Schmidt as your wine aficianado... you'll be glad you did!
