We had a wonderful experience at Socrate Greek Restaurant this holiday season. We ordered the lamb roast and lentil soup, and both were absolutely delicious. The food was fresh, very tasty, and clearly made with care.
The server/cashier was incredibly lovely and friendly, and she made great suggestions that really enhanced our meal.
What truly stood out was the attention to detail. Even the potatoes — a simple part of the dish — were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The Greek salad was fresh, crisp, and vibrant.
A small note for the owners: we understand this is primarily a takeout restaurant, but since there are seats and people do enjoy dining in, a bit more attention to comfort would go a long way. The ventilation could be improved, as the space became smoky with condensation on the windows, and it was also quite cold during our visit. We left feeling a bit chilly and smelling like smoke.
That said, the food and service were excellent, and we’d happily return!

Alex has much to be proud of. Geat food, at very very reasonable prices unlike other Greek eateries. The place is simple and unpretentious, with quick friendly service. There is limited seating, around 10 max, that lends itself to casual meals without obligation to stay for the atmosphere. A real gem everyone should check out. Excellent inexpensive Greek food. 👍

We ordered the family style souvlaki dinner (upgraded to two beef skewers) which also came with greek salad and 4 warm, buttery pita breads on the side. We were blown away by the portions and authentic taste of the food! Greek cuisine is such a comfort and you can tell that these dishes are made with love.
Service was prompt and friendly, and there is an assortment of sodas from Greece and unique Greek desserts to choose from too.
The prices are also extremely reasonable for the portions. We will be coming back regularly!!

I love this place, since we entered to the restaurant it seemed like a family was running it and that feels special.
The whole place is bright and clean. Easy to find parking (on the street).
We ordered smoothly, just I wish they had a modern system to make the cashier's life easier (she was using a calculator). While they took some time to serve the food, was totally with it. Big portions, taste amazing, their rice what a fantastic treat!
I saw they have catering, we are already thinking on trying that yo share this delicious food with family and friends!

Their roast lamb is absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The sides that came with it were terrific, and the portion size was huge! I actually got two meals out of it. Previously, I had their lamb souvlaki and it was delicious as well.

The food was excellent. The chicken souvlaki was plump and juicy, the lamb perfectly cook, and the calamari was tender and crispy.
this was my first time checking out this place. The food was great and the staff were beyond amazing. I wish the staff were treated somewhat better as i did notice some yelling towards them however they worked efficiently with what was provided to them and were super sweet.

Socrates is a true gem in the Burnaby neighbourhood! The food always hits the spot with generous portions, flavourful dishes, and chicken souvlaki grilled to perfection every time. It’s a family-run restaurant where you can genuinely feel the pride and care in everything they serve. Highly recommended. 5 stars for quality and value.
Been here twice. Had the chicken souvlaki and mussaka. Both are very good. Portions are large, so you probably will bring some home if you eat there. Very limited seating as its primarily a take out place. I will be back!

We do like the family chicken souvlaki take out special. I usually phone in an order when I am going to be in the area which is around 2pm or so on a weekday every couple of months (I live in Surrey) and have no problem getting through and letting them know the time I will be there and things are pretty smooth then, including finding a parking spot. Great value and can't find anything as good in quality at their price point.

Chicken Souvlaki with an add on of prawns. The prawns were blah, but the rice pilaf tonight was outstanding!! Tasting chunks of garlic cloves, some peas & carrots, celery, onions, it was so flavourful. And you can never go wrong with the chicken & roasted potatoes. A marinated, tasty & juicy delight. Pita rocked it too.
