Smitty's Family Restaurant - Parksville

Place is perfect. The lady that took care of me was incredibly professional and very nice. Her good mood is contagious. Thank you Caileigh you are very good at your work.

We come here a lot over the years from Nanaimo. This am just sitting around waiting for food, which was awesome and very quick, witnessed a very rude and difficult older lady enter and was really rude and difficult to the young host. The employee handled it perfectly, much better than I would have. Hate seeing our elders being abusive to the young folks who are just trying to earn a living. Just thought I'd comment on how well she handled it. Our server was great too. She has worked here for years and never needs a pen and paper. ❤️

We had breakfast at Smitty’s in Parksville, but the place had a strong, unpleasant smell that made me feel like I was going to throw up. I wanted to leave, but my husband was already drinking his coffee, so out of courtesy, we stayed.

Lorna shamed me for not tipping and felt it was necessary to tell me that she loses money if I don’t tip. I am a 18 year old student and can’t afford to - we don’t live in the US, minimum wage is the same for waitresses, unlike our southern counterpart. Was nice until the moment I hit no tip and then became extremely rude. Made sure no one of the 7 eating with me tipped.

My review disappeared so I'll rewrite it. I came in with my daughters about a month ago. We got seated. It took a bit for our waitress to come. When she did she smelled very strongly of cigarettes. She was an older woman with blue hair. After taking our order she went over to another table and got very chatty. It became clear that those were her friends visiting her and dining where she works. That would be fine but she was not paying attention to the other tables she was supposed to take care of. As well as talking poorly about the restaurant in front of customers. I asked her for a fork she said she would get one then went to talk to her friends. I ended up getting up and helping myself to the forks at the front counter because she clearly wasn't going to bring one. Then I had to ask a different waitress to put in an order of toast for us. Then I told her I wasn't happy with the service that was being provided by the old waitress and wanted to only deal with the new waitress for the rest of my dinning. When the new waitress asked to speak to the old waitress, the old waitress gave us a dirty look.

Overall I was surprised by the lack of professionalism and poor service. The service was good after I changed waitresses. Pancakes were good.

Amazing diner!!! The food was soooo delicious and our server was friendly and funny. She took such good care of us and I would definitely recommend coming when you're in Parksville!
