Ashoka Indian Cuisine

Very tasty food with amazing flavors.

I visited Ashoka Indian Cuisine three days ago and bought a box of Indian sweets. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The entire box tasted weird and off, as if the sweets were stale or spoiled. Even worse, one of the pieces had visible mold on it—a black spot that you can clearly see in the attached photo.

This is a serious food safety issue. Serving moldy and bad-tasting sweets shows a complete lack of hygiene and quality control. It’s not just disappointing—it’s dangerous to customers’ health.

I’m extremely upset and will not be returning. I hope the restaurant takes this seriously and improves their food handling practices. Until then, I strongly recommend others avoid buying sweets from here.

Ashoka has a $15 buffet every Wednesday until 9pm with 11 veggie dishes (And 2 meat). It was REALLY fresh and light. Veggie Pakoras were very fresh and not pasty. The meat in the butter chicken and goat curry were melt in your mouth tender. Naan bread was fresh and hot. I think some of the best Indian food I've had in the city and it was in a buffet! Also $6 imported beer or $26 bottles of wine. Friendly smiling staff were very attentive. Can't be beat!

The food is soooooo good! If you love spicy, order the london hot! 10/10 would come again. We were stuffed but wanted to keep eating! 😍 we also got the lunch special and it was the PERFECT amount!!

A mistake that put a dent in Christmas day, and a cheap attempt at a cover up:
I called around in the hope of finding an Indian restaurant open on Christmas day and thought I had come up trumps when Ashoka said they would be. The nice woman who took our table booking over the phone even asked her colleague to double check. Yes, she said, they were definitely open and they would see me and my family then.
On the day we walked into Penticton and found the door closed and a scribbled sign saying they were closed on Christmas day, hmmm. My family had to walk a long way home with empty tummies and the festive feeling temporarily lost. We had a cheery beans on toast at home and made the best of it. Oh well.
Boxing day I receive a call from Ashoka (i'd forgotten all about it by this stage) telling me they'd been trying to contact me on Christmas morning but my phone was out of signal? Good one!
Funny that it worked perfectly for everyone else on Christmas day and the day after it suddenly works again for them? I had no missed calls, full service. Come on...
I'd have much rather they called to own up to the mistake - they happen, I get that - I would have understood. But an apology AT LEAST. Instead of being fed curry I was fed a flimsy lie and nothing more.
Not good enough, sorry. They'll have to go a long way to get my friends and family's custom back after that.

I love the food here! It's authentic Indian food, and it's delicious.
It's not everywhere that you can get goat. I always order the goat vindaloo. They also let you choose your spice level, so I always get it the hottest they'll make.
We also ordered butter chicken and garlic naan, and they never disappoint. The rice portions are large, and I do wish the other dishes came larger, but the taste is exceptional.
We enjoyed our waitress, too. She was friendly and quick to help.

Food was alright. I had the Palak Paneer with rice. Food came within a reasonable time. The kicker is they brought me my food, but didn't bring a plate or utensils. It took them 10 mins to come back to my table to ask if I needed anything, I asked for a plate, utensils, a napkin and a refill of water. I got a plate and utensils, water never came.
I won't be back . Lachi's has MUCH better service!
