Ordered omakase for lunch. Sushi was so good by master chef and they served misosoup.green tea was significant. Looked like no ventilation inside with a bit of hazy air. They are open until end of this year. Recommend try this sushi 🍣 before closing permanently.

This place has also been on my list to try, but never had the chance to go out to Port Moody.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience here with Chef Hataguchi, his daughter and his wife.
It reminded me of Japan and the warm and cozy atmosphere of times gone past. Congratulations and happy retirement.
I will always hold the memories here in my heart.

Went on a Friday for lunch, but they were closed. No notice anywhere. Google hours said they were open. They are supposedly closing at the end of year... But maybe its happening sooner? Call before you go.
Restaurant is closed until Oct 29, can't wait to return and try when they reopen!

I’ve loved this place ever since I discovered it. It’s a small, intimate spot run by an amazing husband and wife team.
Their omakase is incredibly fresh and delicious — and the price is unbeatable. The beef is also outstanding.
If I lived closer, I’d be here all the time.
My heart is broken to hear they’ll be closing at the end of the year. We’ll try to visit as much as we can before they’re gone.
Thank you, Chef Hataguchi and his wife, for all the wonderful meals and memories.

Arrived here with three other close friends to try out their omakase menu. The omakase consisted of eleven different nigiri, each with their own distinct taste and texture.
The best nigiri in my opinion were the salmon, red snapper, and squid with the mackerel (even though slightly fishy) having a good flavour profile. Each of these had distinctions due to tenderness without a strong oceanic taste or fibrous chew. The o-toro was could be honourably mentioned as it was perfectly fatty but had a bit of a fibrous texture to it.
The pieces that fell short were the shrimp due to feeling a bit overcooked, scallop as it tasted a bit bland and not sweet, amberjack due to a oceanic aftertaste, uni due to a odd oceanic bitterness (could have just been the piece I had as my friends didn’t notice), and the hirame or flounder as it was a bit chewy with a very strong fishy taste.
Although there were some hit or misses, the overall experience was great and the service was fairly welcoming.
I was sad to learn this place is planning to close but I wish the owners the best and I am glad I was able to enjoy the freshness of the sea at this restaurant and thank Matsuzushi and the owners for providing me and my friends with this wonderful omakase experience!

Every time I've been here, I always get their omakase at the bar and the fish is consistently fresh and tastes amazing! My friends and I always have a great time here! I highly recommend this hidden gem and to try this place out soon since the owner will be retiring at the end of this year, so go while you still can!

Really disappointed to see this place shut down by health inspectors today. We drove all the way from Vancouver hoping to visit one last time after hearing their plan for retirement, but arrived to a public health closure notice on the door. Noticed mentioned minimum 6 months shutdown…. sad to see it end this way 😭😭😭
I guess it’s better than eating dirty salmon….

It was our first time eating here - but it certainly won't be the last! Everything was fresh and delicious, and the chef is a delight. We sat at the bar, where the omikase was served piece by piece as it was made, and where we could watch as the chef made sushi for other guests. Best sushi we have had in a long time!

This was probably our best dining experience as it exceeded our already well regarded opinion of Matsuzushi.

This is one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had. The ingredients are incredibly fresh – you can truly taste that clean, “from the sea” flavor in every bite. The restaurant itself is small and refined, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
What makes it even more special is the lovely owner, an elderly couple, who run the place with so much care. The chef personally thanks his customers one by one, which makes the dining experience feel very personal and heartfelt.
Sadly, he plans to close the restaurant by the end of this year as he heads into retirement. I’ll definitely be visiting a few more times before then to enjoy his amazing sushi again. A hidden gem that will be dearly missed.

Been here a couple years back and it was decent for its price. Read somewhere that they would be closing at the end of the year and decided to support them one last time.
We called to book for our family of three. The owner got our name and time down and when he heard we had a toddler with us he immediately said they were busy and hung up.
We decided to test our luck as walk-in since we were already in the area. Not surprised, the restaurant had only two customers (not busy at all).
The lady asked how many as I walked in and I said 3. They saw my kid and said they are fully booked.
I later read that this happened to a few other folks. If it’s a no kid restaurant, they should have openly said that. They could have handled the situation better.
